Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Maytenus guangxiensis (celastraceae), a rare and critically endangered species endemic to China.

ABSTRACT: Maytenus guangxiensis (Celastraceae) is a rare and critically endangered species endemic to China. Here, we first report and characterize its complete chloroplast genome sequence based on Illumina paired-end sequencing data. The complete plastid genome was 157,102 bp, which contained inverted repeats (IR) of 26,476 bp separated by a large single-copy (LSC) and a small single copy (SSC) of 85,559 bp and 18,591 bp, respectively. The cpDNA contains 130 genes, comprising 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the plastome is 37.3%. The phylogenetic analysis of 19 selected chloroplast genomes demonstrated that M. guangxiensis was close to the species Catha edulis.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Magnolia coriacea (Magnoliaceae), a critically endangered endemic to China.

Project description:Magnolia coriacea, Chang et B. L. (Magnoliaceae) is a critically endangered tree, endemic to Yunnan province, China. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of M. coriacea was sequenced and analyzed. The total chloroplast genome size of M. coriacea is 160,113 bp, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs, 26,576 bp) separated by a large single-copy (LSC, 88,175 bp) region and a small single-copy region (SSC, 18,786 bp). The complete chloroplast genome contains 86 protein-coding (PCGs), 37 transfer RNA (tRNAs), and 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNAs) genes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that M. coriacea is closely related to M. cathcartii. This study contributes to the bioinformatics on the evolution, genetic, conservation, and molecular biology for future studies of Magnoliaceae.

The cpDNA contains 129 genes, comprising 83 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the plastome is 37.4%. The phylogenetic analysis of 18 selected chloroplast genomes demonstrated that H. chinensis was close to the species Parashorea macrophylla.

Project description:The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Semiaquilegia guangxiensis was assembled and the phylogenetic relationship with other species in Trib. Isopyreae was inferred in this study. The chloroplast genome is 164,047 bp in length. A typical quadripartite structure was detected, including two inverted repeats (IRs) of 29,581 bp, which are separated by a large single-copy (LSC) and a small single-copy (SSC) of 87,490 bp and 17,395 bp, respectively. Moreover, The genome comprises 132 genes, including 88 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome is 38.9%. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. guangxiensis is most closely related to its congener S. adoxoides, and Semiaquilegia is most closely related to Aquilegia in Ranunculaceae.

The genome contained 124 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome was 36.46%. A phylogenetic analysis demonstrated a close relationship between C. hebestroma and Ostrya rehderiana.

The complete chloroplast genome of Acer pentaphyllum (Sapindaceae), a critically endangered maple endemic to China.

Project description:Acer pentaphyllum is a critically endangered maple confined to the valley of Yalong River in Southwest China. The whole chloroplast genome of A. pentaphyllum was 156,862 bp in length with a typical quadripartite structure, containing a large single-copy (LSC) region of 85,292 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,146 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,712 bp separated among them. Totally 137 unique genes were predicted, comprising 89 protein-coding genes, 39 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes (4 rRNA types). The phylogenetic analysis showed that A. pentaphyllum was resolved as sister to the clade containing A. griseum and A. sino-oblongum. This study reported the first complete chloroplast genome sequences of A. pentaphyllum and reconstructed a phylogeny tree based on 16 Sapindaceae species, which may provide new insight into phylogenetic studies of Sapindaceae and further conservation strategies for A. pentaphyllum.

In this study, we characterized the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of L. oblata. The cp genome was 155,481 bp in length, included a large single-copy (LSC) region of 89,139 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,676 bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 23,833 bp each. The genome contains 130 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic position of L. oblata was also investigated based on cp genome phylogeny of Lonicera representatives. This study is valuable for molecular phylogenetic study and conservation of Lonicera and related taxa.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of a critically endangered orchid Paphiopedilum gratrixianum (Orchidaceae).

Project description:Paphiopedilum gratrixianum is a critically endangered orchid with extremely small populations and of great horticulture value. We assembled and annotated the complete chloroplast genome of P. gratrixianum in this study. The genome is 157,292 bp in length and 35.8% of the GC content. It encodes a total of 102 unique genes, including 68 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis results strongly supported that it was closely related to P. tranlienianum. The complete chloroplast genome of P. gratrixianum (GenBank accession number: MW284890) can be useful for the evolutionary study in Orchidaceae.

Project description:Fritillaria yuminensis is a medicinal species endemic to northwest Xinjiang, China. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of F. yuminensis was sequenced by Illumina Hiseq platform. The complete cp genome was 151,813 bp in length, containing a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb) of 26,377 bp, a large single copy (LSC) of 81,533 bp and a small single copy (SSC) of 17,526 bp, respectively. The overall GC contents was 36.9%. A total of 114 genes were annotated, including 80 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes. A maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis indicated that F. yuminensis was closely related to F. tortifolia and F. verticillata.
