The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ormosia boluoensis.

ABSTRACT: Ormosia boluoensis is a critically Endangered species that is exclusively distributed in Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve in Guangdong province, China. At present, the population of the species is made up of less than 100 adult individuals. Here, we are the first to report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of O. boluoensis. The chloroplast genome of O. boluoensis is 175,760 bp long and includes a large single-copy region that is 74,613 bp, a small, 18,719 bp single copy region and a pair of inverted repeat regions that are 40,771 bp and 41,657 bp in length, respectively. The overall GC content of the O. boluoensis chloroplast genome is 35.58% and contains a total of 134 genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that O. boluoensis is genetically similar to O. xylocarpa and O. emarginata genera.

Project description:Ormosia formosana is an important hardwood species and its seeds are popular as decorative jewelry. Currently, this species is threatened in the natural forests due to habitat destruction. Here, we first report the chloroplast genome of O. formosana for future studies in ecology, phylogeny, and conservation. The chloroplast genome of O. formosana is 173,587 bp in length with a GC content of 35.80%. It includes a large single-copy region of 73,550 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,683 bp, and two inverted repeat regions of 40,696 bp and 40,658 bp, respectively. The genome was totally annotated with 135 genes, including 90 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that O. formosana is most genetically similar to O. boluoensis.

Project description:Ormosia purpureiflora is endemic to China. It is named after its purple flowers. It is a small tree only up to 3 m. It has leathery leaves, racemose inflorescences. The seeds are elliptic and red in coat. It is only confined to Luofushan Provincial Nature Reserve in Huizhou of Guangdong Province. Herein, we first reported on its complete chloroplast genome sequence as genomic resource for conservation purposes. The chloroplast genome of O. purpureiflora was 173,364 bp in length, with a large single-copy region of 73,465 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,751 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions that were 40,574 bp each. A total of 90 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, and eight ribosomal RNA genes were predicted, while 106 simple sequence repeats were recorded throughout the genome. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that O. purpureiflora was sister to O. emarginata.

Project description:Ormosia nuda is a legume species endemic to China. The chloroplast genome (plastome) of this species was assembled in this study. The total plastome size is 173,789 bp in length, containing a large single-copy (LSC) region of 73,847 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,744 bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 40,599 bp which have expanded about 15 kb into LSC. The plastome encodes a total of 111 unique genes, including 77 protein-coding, 30 tRNA, and 4 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis well resolved that O. nuda clustered with O. xylocarpa and O. emarginata. The plastome of O. nuda will provide informative genomic resources for further phylogenetic studies.

The genus Ormosia boluoensis is a newly reported and critically endangered species, and field investigations have indicated that there are only hundreds of it. For the effective conservation, we report its complete mitochondrial genome. The length of the O. boluoensis mitochondrial genome is 248,619 bp, including 28 protein-coding genes, 14 transfer RNA genes, 3 ribosomal RNA genes, and 45 simple sequence repeats. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that O. boluoensis was a sister to the clade including Sophora flavescens, Ammopiptanthus nanus, and Ammopiptanthus mongolicus.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Lemna turionifera (Araceae).

Project description:Lemna turionifera is native to North America and northern Asia, with significant potential for industrial wastewater remediation. The complete nucleotide sequence of the L. turionifera chloroplast genome (cpDNA) was determined. The cpDNA is a circular molecule of 166,606 bp and containing a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) measuting 31,663 bp each. These IRs are flanked by a small single-copy region of 13,542 bp and a large single-copy region of 89,738 bp. The chloroplast genome of L. turionifera consisted of 112 unique genes, including 78 protein-encoding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis utilizing cpDNA provided a well-supported resolution of the relationships among subfamilies within the Araceae family. Our findings indicated a close relationship between L. turionifera and a clade consisting of L. minor, L. japonica, and L. gibba. The availability of the complete chloroplast genome sequence of L. turionifera presents valuable data for future phylogenetic investigations within the Lemnaceae family.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Hedychium coronarium.

Project description:The first complete chloroplast genome of Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae) was reported in this study. The H. coronarium chloroplast genome was 163,949 bp in length and comprised a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 29,780 bp each, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 88,581 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 15,808 bp. It encoded 141 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes (79 PCG species), 46 tRNA genes (28 tRNA species), and eight rRNA genes (four rRNA species). The nucleotide composition was asymmetric (31.68% A, 18.35% C, 17.74% G, 32.23% T) with an overall AT content of 63.92%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. coronarium was classified into a monophyletic group within the genus Hedychium in family Zingiberaceae.

Project description:Prunus mahaleb (L.) Mill. is a kind of ornamental species which originated from Europe and Western Asia. Here, we use Illumina paired-end sequencing to obtain the complete chloroplast genome of P. mahaleb. The complete cp genome of P. mahaleb with a size of 157,824 bp in length is a circular molecular genome, including a pair of inverted repeat (IR) region of 26,410 bp each, separated by a large single copy (LSC) region of 85,926 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 19,078 bp. The genome consisted of 129 genes, including 84 protein-codon genes (PCGs), 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The GC content of the whole chloroplast genome is 36.7%. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that P. mahaleb was the closest related to P. cerasoides and P. maximowiczii.

Here, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to sequence and assemble the chloroplast genome of K. pentacarpos. The full length of the chloroplast genome is 161,777 bp, comprising a large single-copy region of 90,019 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,978 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats of 26,390 bp. A total of 113 genes were annotated, including 79 protein-coding, 30 transfer RNA, and 4 ribosomal RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on whole chloroplast genome sequences showed that K. pentacarpos has a close relationship with Abelmoschus in Malvaceae. This study increases the available genomic information on K. pentacarpos, and provides a basis for the rational exploitation and utilization of germplasm resources.
