Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic position of Pangasius sanitwongsei (Siluriformes: Pangasiidae).

ABSTRACT: In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Pangasius sanitwongsei was firstly reported and analyzed. It had a double-stand DNA molecule with 16536 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and one control region. The structural organization and gene order was similar to other bony fishes. The complete mitochondrial genome of P. sanitwongsei provided in this work would be helpful for further research on phylogenetics and conservation genetics of the Siluriformes and other orders.

Project description:The catfish, Pangasius nasutus and P. conchophilus, are often misidentified between each other due to their similar morphology. Thus, the current study was conducted to differentiate them based on a molecular approach. The complete mitochondrial genomes of P. nasutus and P. conchophilus obtained from the Pahang River (Peninsular Malaysia) were sequenced, assembled, and annotated using next-generation sequencing (NGS). A 16,465 bp and 16,470 bp length mitogenome sequence of P. nasutus and P. conchophilus, respectively, was generated, each containing 13 protein genes, 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs, typical of most vertebrates. This is the first report of the complete mitochondrial genome sequences of P. nasutus and P. conchophilus. These data are a valuable genetic resource for future studies of these two commercially important species.

Project description:The striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage 1878), belongs to the family Pangasiidae, is an important economic freshwater species. We determined the complete mitogenome of the Pangasianodon hypophthalmus through sanger method. The complete mitochondrial genome of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus was a circular molecule of 16,469 bp with a total GC content of 44% which contains 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 22 tRNAs genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Pangasianodon hypophthalmus clustered together with other Pangasianodon species and was closely related to Pangasius larnaudii, both species belonged to Pangasianodon genus.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial DNA genome of Pseudopimelodus schultzi was first was determined in this study. The entire length of mitochondrial genome consists of 13 protein-codinggenes (PCG), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA), and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and control region. The nucleotide composition was made up of 32.2% A, 25.9% T, 26.7% C, and 15.2% G, respectively, indicating an A + T (58.1%)-rich feature. With the exception of 8 tRNA genes and NADH6, mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand, which was similar to that in other vertebrates. The results showed that the species of Pseudopimelodidae were gathered in the same branch. The phylogenies indicate monophyly of the genus Batrochoglanis, Batrochoglanis and Microglanis, respectively.

Project description:Pareuchiloglanis feae is mainly distributed in Irrawaddy (China and Myanmar), Salween (China and Myanmar), and the Yangtze River drainage areas. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of P. feae, which has a circular structure of 16,863 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a non-coding control region (D-loop), is being reported for the first time. The A, T, C, and G content were 31.36, 15.69, 28.04, and 24.91%, respectively. Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood method showed that P. feae clustered with P. anteanalis and P. sichuanensis. Our results provide further information and references for clarifying the phylogenetic relationships within Glyptosternoid fishes.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic position of Chaenodraco wilsoni.

Project description:Chaenodraco wilsoni, a species of Channichthyidae, inhabits in southern ocean. The total length of complete mitochondrial genome of C. wilsoni is 17,432 bp, which encoded 37 genes. Similar to most Antarctic fishes, the ND6/tRNA (glu) translocation and an additional non-coding region linked with ND6 have also occurred in C. wilsoni. The ML tree supports that C. wilsoni has closer relationship with Chionodraco species. Our research will provide more molecular biology information about C. wilsoni and deepen the understanding of Antarctic fishes.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mystus gulio Hamilton (Siluriformes: Bagridae) and its phylogenetic implication.

Project description:Mystus gulio Hamilton, also called long whiskers catfish, is an endemic fish and a common food in some Asian countries. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of M. gulio was sequenced using the MinION system (Oxford Nanopore Technologies). The mitochondrial genome is 16,518 bp in length (41.1% [G + C] content) and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes. The results of phylogenetic analysis inferred from whole mitochondrial genomes of Mystus and related species in the family Bagridae revealed that M. gulio is closely related to Mystus cavasius.
