The complete mitochondrial genome of the Opisthotropis guangxiensis (Squamata: Colubridae).

ABSTRACT: In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of the Opisthotropis guangxiensis, which is 17,042 bp in size and includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions. The sequence presented would be useful for better understanding the phylogenetic and evolutionary of genus Opisthotropis.

Project description:Lycodon liuchengchaoi is a new species discovered in recent years which is widely distribute in Anhui, Hubei and Sichuan Province. In this study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of L. liuchengchaoi. The result shows that the complete mitogenome of L. liuchengchaoi is 17,171bp. It is similar with the typical mtDNA of Serpentes, which contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 control regions, and a stem-loop region. The phylogenetic tree, contains 17 Serpentiforms species, is divided into two clades which correspond to six genera in Colubridae. The L. liuchengchaoi which appeared into Clade A, clustered within Lycodon.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Plagiopholis styani was acquired and described. The mitogenome is a circular molecule of 19,669 base pairs (bp) in length including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and two control regions (D-loop), which is similar to other Colubridae snakes. The total base composition of mitochondrial DNA is A 33.0%, C 24.9%, G 12.8%, and T 29.3%. The mitochondrial genome of Plagiopholis styani contributes to revealing the phylogenetic relationships among species of the Colubridae family.

Project description:The mitochondrial genome sequence of Pseudoxenodon stejnegeri (Squamata: Colubridae: Pseudoxenodontinae) from Taishun County, Zhejiang Province, China, which is 18,475 bp in length and contains 25 tRNAs (including extra two tRNA-Tyr genes and extra one tRNA-Met gene), two rRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes and two identical control regions. The overall AT content of the mitogenome is 59.6% (A = 32.6%, T = 27%, C = 27%, G = 13.4%). In BI and ML phylogenetic analyses, the monophyly of the family Colubridae was well supported and P. stejnegeri was a basal clade of Colubridae.

The complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis for Rhabdophis chiwen (squamata: colubridae).

Project description:Rhabdophis chiwen is currently found so far in Sichuan Province, China, where it predominantly feeds on earthworms and firefly larvae. In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the mitochondrial genome of R. chiwen, which measured 17,646 bp in length and encompassed 37 genes along with two control regions. The base composition revealed percentages of 33.20% A, 25.94% T, 13.27% G, and 27.59% C. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that R. chiwen belongs to the family Colubridae and forms a sister branch with R. tigrinus. This study successfully obtained the first complete mitochondrial genome of R. chiwen, offering crucial genetic data for its evolutionary history and conservation.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Elaphe carinata was sequenced and analysed using muscle tissue for the first time. The genome is 17 154 bp in length. The complete mitochondrial genome contains 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, two control regions (CRI and CRII) and one putative origin of L-strand replication. The gene order and nucleotide composition of E. carinata are very similar with E. davidi, E. schrenckii, E. anomala and E. bimaculata. A phylogenetic tree of mitochondrial genomes analyses of 16 species snakes of Colubridae was made based on the Neighbour-Joining (NJ) method, E. carinata has the most closely relationship with E. davidi, while E. poryphyracea and Euprepiophis perlacea are special species.

Project description:The complete DNA sequence of the mitochondrial genome of the bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer sayi) is presented and analyzed in this study. The genome is 17,193 bp in length, and contains 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes and 2 control regions. The overall base composition of the H-strand is A (34.5%), T (26.2%), C (25.8%) and G (12.7%). The gene order and orientation of the mitogenome is consistent with other sequenced genomes from colubrid snakes. Phylogenetic analyses using the ML, NJ and MP methods for a set of colubrids, including every sequenced genus within the sub-family Colubrinae, produced identical trees. We show that Pituophis is most closely related to the American ratsnake genus Pantherophis.

Complete mitochondrial genomes of Boigakraepelini and Hebiuscraspedogaster (Reptilia, Squamata, Colubridae) and their phylogenetic implications.

Project description:The complete sequence of the mitochondrial genome is a powerful tool for studying phylogenetic relationships and molecular evolution in various species. In this work, the mitogenomes of Boigakraepelini and Hebiuscraspedogaster were sequenced and characterized for the first time. The lengths of the B.kraepelini and H.craspedogaster mitogenomes were 17,124 bp and 17,120 bp, respectively, and both included 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs and two control regions. The arrangements of these mitochondrial genes were the same in B.kraepelini and H.craspedogaster. In addition, both genome compositions showed A+T bias (59.03%, 60.93%) and had positive AT skews (0.179, 0.117) and negative GC skews (-0.397, -0.348). The phylogenetic results illustrated a close relationship between B.kraepelini and the genus Lycodon. Moreover, H.craspedogaster was clustered with other Hebius snakes and closely related to other Natricinae species. These results will provide references for further research on the phylogeny of Colubridae.

Most of the genes of L. ruhstrati were distributed on the H-strand, except for the ND6 subunit gene and eight tRNA genes which were encoded on the L-strand. The phylogenetic tree of L. ruhstrati and 12 other closely related species was reconstructed. The mitogenome sequence presented here will be useful to study the evolutionary relationships and genetic diversity of L. ruhstrati.

The complete mitogenome sequence of S. modesta provided fundamental data for resolving phylogenetic and genetic problems related to genus Scincella.
