The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Monotropa uniflora (Ericaceae).

ABSTRACT: Monotropa uniflora is one of the representative plants of Ericaceae family, which was famous for entire translucent and 'ghostly' white. Also, unique lifestyle also attracts lots of researchers, which it obtains through fixed carbon from photosynthetic plants via a shared mycorrhizal network. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of M. uniflora was assembled and annotated, its full-length is 26,913 bp. Plastid genome contains 31 genes, 14 protein-coding genes, 14 tRNA genes, and 3 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analyses based on the complete chloroplast genome sequence provided solid evidence that M. uniflora has a close relationship M. odorata. The chloroplast genome presented here will help for further conservation of M. uniflora and other saprophytes.

Project description:Abstract Vaccinium species have great significance as fruit crops due to their economic and food values. Here we report the chloroplast genome of V. oxycoccos. The chloroplast genome of V. oxycoccos was 177,088 bp in length with a GC content of 36.74%. LSC, SSC, and IR regions were 104,139 bp, 3031 bp, and 34,959 bp in length, respectively. The chloroplast genome contained 105 different genes, including 73 protein-coding genes, 4 rRNA genes, and 28 tRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that V. oxycoccos was closely related to V. microcarpum in the family Ericaceae. This chloroplast genome not only enriches the genome information of Vaccinium, but also will be useful in the evolution study of the family Ericaceae.

The complete chloroplast genome of rhododendron williamsianum (ericaceae).

Project description:Rhododendron williamsianum Rehder & E. H. Wilson 1913, is a plant with important horticultural value. Here we report its chloroplast genome. The total length of the chloroplast genome was 205,424 bp, with a GC content of 35.8%. It consisted of a 107,968 bp large single copy, a 2606 bp small single copy, and a pair of 47,425 bp inverted repeats separating them. Within the chloroplast genome, there were a total of 110 unique genes, which included 76 protein-coding genes, 4 rRNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes. Our phylogenetic analyses indicated that R. williamsianum was closely genetically related to R. sutchuenense and R. jingangshanicum. The findings from this study not only contribute to the genetic database of Rhododendron plants but also have implications for evolutionary research within the family Ericaceae.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Rhododendron farrerae Tate ex Sweet (Ericaceae).

Project description:Rhododendron farrerae Tate ex Sweet 1831 is a species of ornamental plant found in southern China. In the present study, the complete chloroplast genome of R. farrerae was sequenced. The genome was 149,453 bp in length and lacked the typical quadripartite structure. The plastid genome contained 112 genes, including 74 protein-coding genes, 34 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome was 35.65%. Phylogenetic analysis of 25 chloroplast genomes revealed that R. farrerae was closely related to Rhododendron huadingense. This study could provide fundamental information for the distribution, utilization, and phylogenomics of Rhododendron.

The length of the R. kawakamii chloroplast genome is 230,777 bp, with a large single-copy region of 146,155 bp, a small single-copy region of 72,082 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRA) of 6,270 bp each. The genome contains 77 protein-coding genes, 29 transfer RNA genes, and four ribosomal RNA genes. In addition, the genome contains 81 simple sequence repeats. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that R. kawakamii is genetically related to R. datiandingense.

The genome of R. datiandingense is 207,311 bp in length, including a large single-copy region of 190,689 bp and a small single-copy region of 2582 bp, a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRA) of 7020 bp each. The genome encodes 110 genes, comprising 77 protein-coding genes, four ribosomal RNA genes, and 29 transfer RNA genes. Repeat analysis revealed 62 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) in the genome. The complete chloroplast genome of Rhododendron huadingense (Ericaceae).

Project description:Rhododendron huadingense is an important horticultural plant that belongs to the Ericaceae family. In this study, the chloroplast genome sequence of R. huadingense is reported. The chloroplast genome of R. huadingense was 198,952 bp in length and had an angiosperm-typical quadripartite structure with a large single-copy (LSC) region of 108,557 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 53 bp, and two inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 45,171 bp. One hundred and thirteen unique genes including 79 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and four ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes were identified in the chloroplast genome. Further phylogenetic analysis revealed a close relationship between R. huadingense and R. molle. The complete chloroplast genome of R. huadingense provides valuable genetic information for the phylogeny, varieties breeding and sustainable utilization of this species.

The complete chloroplast genome of Rhododendron delavayi (Ericaceae).

Project description:Rhododendron delavayi, as a member of Ericaceae family, has been widely used as an important garden flower. The cp genome of R. delavayi exhibited a typical quadripartite cycle with 193,798 bp, comprising of a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb) of 15,494 bp intersected by a large single copy (LSC) region of 160,234 bp and a quite small single copy region of 2576 bp. Totally, 123 unique genes were assembled in this cp genome, including 80 protein genes, 35 tRNAs and 8 rRNAs. Out of these assembled genes, 88 genes (71.54%) were single copy. Phylogenetic analysis based on 14 cp genome of related species showed that the R. delavayi was closely related to Vaccinium oldhamii. This study provides important information for future evolution, genetic and molecular biology studies of Rhododendron.

The complete chloroplast genome of Tulipa uniflora (Liliaceae) in Mongolia.

Project description:Tulipa uniflora (L.) Besser ex Baker (1874) is distributed throughout China, Mongolia, and Russia (Siberia). This study reports the complete chloroplast genome sequence of T. uniflora based on high-throughput sequencing. The genome has a natural quadripartite structure and is 152,254 bp long with 36.5% GC content. It has 98 unique genes, including 4 rRNA genes, 29 tRNA genes, and 75 protein-coding genes. A total of 77 single-sequence repeats were identified, mostly in intergenic spacer regions. Anticodon recognition patterns revealed 19,717 codons in the protein-coding genes. Based on the whole chloroplast genome, T. uniflora was separated early from Tulipa species.

Project description:Rhododendron oreodoxa var. fargesii is an evergreen shrub or small tree, which has great ornamental and huge medicinal value. The complete chloroplast genome of this species has not been reported. In the present study, we obtained the chloroplast complete genome, the circular genome was 200,787 bp in total length, and 141 genes were identified, including 93 protein-coding, 40 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The results of the phylogenetic analysis supported the idea that Rhododendron belongs to the Ericaceae family and that R. oreodoxa var. fargesii is closely related to R. griersonianum in the Ericaceae family. This study will provide useful data onto phylogeny research and genomic selective breeding of R. oreodoxa var. fargesii.

Characterization of the Complete Chloroplast Genome of Gaultheria nummularioides D.Don 1825 (Ericaceae).

Project description:Gaultheria nummularioides D.Don 1825 (Ericaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The complete chloroplast genome of G. nummularioides has been sequenced and assembled. The genome is 176,207 bp in total with one large single copy (LSC: 107,726 bp), one small single copy (SSC: 3,389 bp), and two inverted repeat regions (IRa and IRb; each 32,546 bp). The chloroplast genome encoded a total of 110 unique genes; the GC content of these genes is 36.6%. The results based on phylogenetic analysis of the complete chloroplast genome suggests that G. nummularioides diverged later than G. praticola, the sister relationship between G. nummularioides and the clade comprising G. fragrantissima Wall. 1820 and G. hookeri C.B. Clarke 1882 was strongly supported. This study provides additional information on the genetic diversity of G. nummularioides, its closely related taxa, and further exploration of chloroplast genomes in the Ericaceae family.
