Complete mitochondrial genome of fire-tailed myzornis (Myzornis pyrrhoura) and white-browed fulvetta (Fulvetta vinipectus).

ABSTRACT: In this study, the complete mitochondrial genomes of Myzornis pyrrhoura and Fulvetta vinipectus were sequenced and described for the first time. The whole mitochondrial genomes of M. pyrrhoura and F. vinipectus are 17,397 bp and 16,961 bp in length, with the G + C percentage 46.34% and 47.36%, respectively. Both genomes contain 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosome RNA genes, and 1 non-coding control region. The arrangement of genes is identical to mitochondrial genomes of Sylviidae species reported previously. A phylogenetic reconstruction supported that M. pyrrhoura and F. vinipectus are members of family Sylviidae. The mitochondrial genomes of these two species reported here would be helpful in better understanding the phylogeny and evolution of Sylviidae.

Project description:The White-browed Tit-warbler (Leptopoecile sophiae) is a tiny and infrequently-seen bird species that is mainly distributed in alpine scrub and forests. This species is poorly understood with respect to its natural history and genetic information. In this paper, we first presented the whole mitochondrial genome of the White-browed Tit-warbler. The whole mitochondrial sequence of this species was determined by long-range PCR and conserved primer walking approaches. The results revealed that the whole mitochondrial genome of L. sophiae was 17,803 bp in length with 54.3% A + T content; the genome has the same gene order as that of other passerine birds, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 1 non-coding control region. The control region (D-loop) of L. sophiae was located between tRNA-Gln and tRNA-Phe with 1155 bp length. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the genome of Leptopoecile species is more closely related to Aegithalos species than to Phylloscopus species. These data provide value for further studies on molecular evolution and conservation genetics on these poorly-known Leptopoecile species at high altitudes.

The complete mitochondrial genome of red-tailed laughingthrush (Garrulax milnei).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Garrulax milnei was sequenced for the first time. This mitogenome is 17,871bp in length and it contains 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 1 control region and 1 extra pseudo-control region. The base composition of the mitochondrial genome is 29.7% A, 24.5% T, 14.2% G and 31.6% C. The phylogenetic analysis based on the 12 protein-coding genes (except for ND6 gene) showed that G. milnei clusters with other two species that belong to genus Garrulax.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of short-tailed field vole, Microtus agrestis.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of short-tailed field vole, Microtus agrestis, was determined through sequencing of PCR fragments. The complete mitochondrial genome of M. agrestis was 16,538 bp in length and encoded 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and two ribosomal RNA genes. The overall nucleotide composition is: 15.7% A, 27.5% T, 25.5% C, and 31.4% G, with a total G + C content of 56.9%. By phylogenetic analysis using Bayesian method, M. agrestisa showed the closest relationship with the southern vole (Microtus rossiaemeridionalis).

The complete mitochondrial genome of long-tailed whiskered bat, Myotis frater (Myotis, Vespertilionidae).

Project description:Here, we report the complete mitogenome of Myotis frater with the GenBank accession number MH177276 as a first step to elucidate genetic characteristics of this species. Its mitogenome was 17,089 bp long and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a control region. The gene order and composition of M. frater was similar to that of most other vertebrates. The base composition of the 13 PCG in descending order was A (33.8%), C (22.7%), T (30.4%), and G (13.1%), with an AT content of 64.2%. Four overlapping regions in ATP8/ATP6, ATP6/COX3, ND4L/ND4, and ND5/ND6, among the 13 PCGs were found. The 935 bp long control region is located between tRNA-Pro and tRNA-Phe with 4 ATTACATAATACATTATATGTATAATCGTACATTAAATTAACTCCCACATGAATATTAAGCATGTCCATACTAATATTAAT-repeat at 5' region and 45 ACGCAT-repeat at 3' terminus. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that M. frater is most closely related to M. bechsteinii (KX757757), it was supported by 100% bootstrap under both ML and NJ tree.

Project description:In this announcement, we report the complete mitogenome of the vulnerable Crest-tailed Mulgara (Dasycercus cristicauda) (Krefft, 1867). The mitogenome was 17,085 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 22 tRNAs and a 1583 bp variable control region (D-loop). The features of the D. cristicauda mitogenome are consistent with other vertebrate mitogenomes but, in contrast to other marsupials, appears to contain a functional tRNA-Lysine with a UUU anticodon. Phylogenetic analysis of available entire mitogenomes reveals it forms a cluster with other marsupials in the Dasyuromorphia order within the Australidelphian clade, being most closely related to the Northern Quoll and the Tasmanian Devil.

Analysis of complete mitochondrial genome sequence of bar-tailed Treecreeper certhia himalayana (psittaciformes: Certhiidae).

Project description:Bar-tailed Treecreeper Certhia himalayana usually lives in coniferous or mixed broadleaf-conifer forests, often crawling along the trunk. In this study, we first sequenced and described the complete mitochondrial genome and phylogeny of C. himalayana. The whole genome of C. himalayana was 16,852 bp in length, and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosome RNA genes, and 1 non-coding control regions. The overall base composition of the mitochondrial DNA was 25.1% for A, 29.2% for T, 14.5% for C, 31.2% for G, with a GC content of 45.7%. A phylogenetic tree strongly supported that C. himalayana closely related with Family Troglodytidae by highly probability.

We used 12 mitochondrion genes of 15 species to constructed phylogenetic tree with three methods. The study will provide useful data for further studies on phylogenetic relationships as well as population structure, biodiversity conservation and conservation genetics.
