The first mitochondrial genome of the relic Acanthobdella peledina (Annelida, Acanthobdellida).

ABSTRACT: In this study, we assembled a complete mitochondrial genome of the Acanthobdella peledina sample from the Pitea River, Sweden. Thirty-six genes of the mitogenome sequence were identified, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal genes (12S and 16S), 21 transport RNA genes, and 1 control region. The complete mitogenome is 14,640 bp long and A + T biased (70.59%).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the Aphrodita australis was sequenced. The complete mitochondrial genome was circular and 15,288 bp in length, consisted of a typical set of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 1 non-coding control region. All these genes are in the heavy strand. The non-coding control region is 672 bp in length, and located between tRNA-Ser and tRNA-Leu. The overall nucleotides base composition of the heavy strand is 31.02% for A, 22.76% for C, 12.49% for G, and 33.73% for T, with a slight A + T-rich feature (64.75%). All of the PCGs begin with ATG as their start codon and the cox 3, cytb and nad 3 are terminated with TAA, atp8, nad4, nad 4l, and nad 6 are terminated with TAG, while others are terminated by incomplete codon T. Seen from the phylogenetic tree, A. australis has a more close relationship with Goniada japonica than other species.

Mitochondrial genome of Dinophilus gyrociliatus (Annelida: Dinophilidae).

Project description:Here we report the 14,678 bp mitochondrial genome of the annelid Dinophilus gyrociliatus, the first mitochondrial genome from Dinophilidae. We recovered 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA, and 21 tRNA, the order of which is different from other annelid species. Interestingly, trnS1 was not recovered. The GC% across the genome was 34.20%.

Mitochondrial genome of Pseudopotamilla reniformis (Annelida: Sabellidae).

Project description:Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of sabellid Pseudopotamilla reniformis (Bruguière, 1789) (16,408 bp) and comprised of two ribosomal RNAs, the ubiquitous set of 13 protein-coding sequences, and 22 tRNAs. The order of protein-coding genes is consistent with the proposed conserved pattern, which contradicts recent discovery in other members of the family (Sabella spallanzanii in Daffe et al., 2021 and Bispira melanostigma in Hornfeck et al., 2022).

First mitochondrial genomes of Capitellidae and Opheliidae (Annelida) and their phylogenetic placement.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genomes of Notomastus sp. (15,776 bp) (Annelida: Capitellidae) and Armandia sp. (18,538 bp) (Annelida: Opheliidae) were assembled for the first time. A group II intron (303 bp) was found in cox1 of Notomastus sp. A phylogenetic analysis revealed that Notomastus sp. and Armandia sp. were monophyletic, and this clade was clustered with echiurans, although the possibility of the effect of long-branch attraction should be considered.

Project description:We report the complete mitochondrial genome of Leocrates chinensis Kinberg, 1866 - the type species of the genus. It is 15061 bp long, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes (tRNAs), and 2 rRNA genes (rRNAs), and 1 putative control region. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that L. chinensis was placed as sister to Sirsoe methanicola (BS = 100) of the same family Hesionidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the plumed worm Diopatra cuprea (Annelida: Onuphidae).

Project description:In this study, we describe the complete mitochondrial genome of Diopatra cuprea (Bosc, 1802). The mitogenome was found to contain 14,990 base pairs (67.53% A + T content), with a total of 37 genes (13 protein coding, 22 transfer RNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNAs). This study also examined mitogenome phylogenetics relationships of closely related species and recovered that D. cuprea is closely related to eunicids. This work has added to the genetic resources for furthering evolutionary studies of Annelida.

The Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Torix tukubana (Annelida: Hirudinea: Glossiphoniidae).

Project description:Torix tukubana is a poorly understood proboscidate leech species, generally an ectoparasite on amphibian species. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of T. tukubana was sequenced using next-generation sequencing (NGS), and the essential characteristics, gene arrangement, and phylogenetic relationship were analyzed. The results showed that the T. tukubana mitogenome was 14,814 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and 1 control region (CR). The mitogenome composition presented a strong A + T bias (73.6%). All tRNAs had the typical clover structure except the trnS1 (TCT), whose dihydrouridine (DHU) arm was short, having only one complementary base pair. Additionally, 8 gene order patterns were identified among 25 known Hirudinea species, and T. tukubana was identical to the Hirudinea ground pattern. A phylogenetic analysis based on 13 PCGs indicated that all the studied species clustered into three main clades. The relationships among Hirudinea species were basically consistent with their gene arrangement results, but different from their morphological taxonomy. T. tukubana was in the monophyletic group of Glossiphoniidae, a finding consistent with previous research. Our results provided the essential characteristics of the T. tukubana mitogenome. As the first complete mitogenome of Torix, it could offer valuable information for a systematic understanding of the Hirudinea species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Boccardiella hamata (Annelida: Polychaeta: Spionida).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitogenome sequence of Korean Boccardiella hamata was determined. This is the first complete mitogenome in the order Spionida. The complete mitogenome of B. hamata is 17,561 bp in length with 12 protein-coding genes (atp8 gene absent), 23 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs, and 1 control region. Interestingly, the gene arrangement of the 12 PCGs of B. hamata is unique, which is very different from that of the other polychaetes currently known. The phylogenetic tree supported the traditional taxonomic position of Spionidae within subclass Sedentaria.

The mitochondrial genome of the bone-eating worm Osedaxrubiplumus(Annelida, Siboglinidae).

Project description:Osedaxrubiplumus(Annelida, Siboglinidae)uses heterotrophic bacteria to feed onvertebrate carcasses and is currently found in the Pacific, Antarctic and Indian Ocean.Here, we report its nearly complete mitochondrial genomes assembled for 2 individuals, one from the East Pacific and the other from the Southwest Indian Ocean. Recoveredmitogenomes were 15591 and 15972 bp in length, with both consisting of 37 typical metazoan mitochondrial genes. All genes were transcribed from the same strand, and arranged in the same order as the other siboglinids, revealing conserved gene arrangement withinSiboglinidae. Phylogeneticanalysis of 13 protein coding genes confirms the placement of Osedaxsister to the Vestimentifera+Sclerolinum clade.

The mitochondrial genome of Dendrobaena tellermanica Perel, 1966 (Annelida: Lumbricidae) and its phylogenetic position.

Project description:Earthworms are an important ecological group that has a significant impact on soil fauna as well as plant communities. Despite their importance, genetic diversity and phylogeny of earthworms are still insufficiently studied. Most studies on earthworm genetic diversity are currently based on a few mitochondrial and nuclear genes. Mitochondrial genomes are becoming a promising target for phylogeny reconstruction in earthworms. However, most studies on earthworm mitochondrial genomes were made on West European and East Asian species, with much less sampling from other regions. In this study, we performed sequencing, assembly, and analysis of the mitochondrial genome of Dendrobaena tellermanica Perel, 1966 from the Northern Caucasus. This species was earlier included into D. schmidti (Michaelsen, 1907), a polytypic species with many subspecies. The genome was assembled as a single contig 15,298 bp long which contained a typical gene set: 13 protein-coding genes (three subunits of cytochrome c oxidase, seven subunits of NADH dehydrogenase, two subunits of ATP synthetase, and cytochrome b), 12S and 16S ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. All genes were located on one DNA strand. The assembled part of the control region, located between the tRNA-Arg and tRNA-His genes, was 727 bp long. The control region contained multiple hairpins, as well as tandem repeats of the AACGCTT monomer. Phylogenetic analysis based on the complete mitochondrial genomes indicated that the genus Dendrobaena occupied the basal position within Lumbricidae. D. tellermanica was a rather distant relative of the cosmopolitan D. octaedra, suggesting high genetic diversity in this genus. D. schmidti turned out to be paraphyletic with respect to D. tellermanica. Since D. schmidti is known to contain very high genetic diversity, these results may indicate that it may be split into several species.
