Penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) are a family of bacterial enzymes that are key components of cell-wall biosynthesis and the target of β-lactam antibiotics. Most microbial pathogens contain multiple structurally homologous PBP isoforms, making it difficult to target individual PBPs.
