Some subtypes of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) share morphologic, immunophenotypic, and clinical features of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), but lack a <i>PML-RARA</i> (promyelocytic leukemia-retinoic acid receptor alpha) fusion gene.
