The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Halichoeres nigrescens (Labriformes: Labridae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of marine fish Halichoeres nigrescens was sequenced by the high-throughput sequencing method. The genome is 17,252 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one large non-coding region. The gene arrangement of Halichoeres nigrescens is identical to that of common fishes. Phylogenetic tree based on 13 protein-coding genes shows that Halichoeres nigrescens has a closer phylogenetic relationship to Macropharyngodon negrosensis than to Halichoeres hartzfeldii.

Project description:The mitogenome of Halichoeres hartzfeldii is 16,481 bp in length. It consists of 37 typical vertebrate mitochondrial genes including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (D-loop). The orientation and arrangement of these genes is similar to that of the other sequenced Labridae mitogenome. The overall base composition of the mitogenome of H. hartzfeldii is biased towards A +T content at 52.9%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 13 concatenated PCGs nucleotide sequences indicated that the genome of H. hartzfeldii is closely related to the genus Halichoeres.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Cheilio inermis (Labriformes, Labridae).

Project description:In the present report, we describe the first sequencing and assembly of the complete mitochondrial genome of Cheilio inermis. The mitochondrial genome of C. inermis, with 16,494 bp in length, has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement. It contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a control region. All the tRNA genes typically formed a cloverleaf secondary structure. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 11 species showed that C. inermis formed monophyletic group with other Labridae species.

Project description:Cheilinus trilobatus Lacépède, 1801 is a species of genus Cheilinus. In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrion genome of C. trilobatus. The mitochondrial genome was 17,292 bp, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one non-coding control region (D-loop). The nucleotide composition was 27.31% A, 25.1% T, 17.23% G, and 30.36% C. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that C. trilobatus was closely related to Cheilinus oxycephalus. The complete mitogenome of C. trilobatus provided basic data for the genetic diversity conservation of this species.

Project description:Thalassoma lunare is one of most important genera of Labridae. However, the systemically classification and taxonomic studies have so far been limited. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of T. lunare. The mitogenome has 17,073 base pairs (57.7% A + T content) and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a putative control region. This study will provide useful genetic information for future phylogenetic and taxonomic classification of Labridae.

Project description:Cheilinus oxycephalus is a marine fish species, belonging to the family Labridae and naturally distributed in Indo-Pacific waters. We obtained the first complete mitochondrial genome of this species using next-generation sequencing technology. This genome is 17,698 bp, and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a D-loop region. These genes are mostly encoded on the heavy strand except for ND6 and eight tRNA genes. The AT content is 52.32%. These characteristics are similar to other bony fish. This mitochondrial genome would be used as a resource for phylogenetic reconstruction.

Project description:Here, we report the complete mitogenome information of the six-line wrasse Pseudocheilinus hexataenia (Bleeker, 1857). Genome sequencing using the Illumina HiSeq platform allowed the assembly of a circular mitochondrial genome of 17,111 bp from P. hexataenia, consisting of 54% AT nucleotides, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a putative control region in the typical Labriformes gene composition. The gene order of the P. hexataenia mitochondrion was identical to that of the Labridae mitogenomes. Phylogenetic reconstruction places P. hexataenia with a close relationship with the mitogenome of the goldsinny wrasse, Ctenolabrus rupestris.

Project description:In this paper, we report the complete mitochondrial genome (17,306 bp) of the pearly razorfish Xyrichtys novacula Linnaeus, 1758, a labrid that inhabits tropical and temperate Atlantic waters and the Mediterranean Sea. The circular double-stranded sequence contains the typical teleost gene order with 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA, 2 rRNA, 1 control region, and 2 intergenic spacers between the rRNAs. Using the sequences of all protein-coding genes, we inferred the phylogeny for the Labriade family using 24 labrids and 3 outgroup species that placed X. novacula in a monophyletic group including species from the Pseudocheilines, Pseudolabrines, and Julidines.
