The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Photopectoralis bindus (Perciformes: Leiognathidae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of Photopectoralis bindus was sequenced by high throughput sequencing method in this study. Length of this genome is 16,517 bp, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one large non-coding region. ND6 and eight tRNA genes are encoded by L-strand, and others are encoded by H-strand, which is similar to those in most vertebrates. The nucleotide composition of the whole mitogenome is 29.9% A, 30.1% C, 15.1% G, and 25.0% T, with a slight bias of A + T content (54.9%). Phylogenetic tree based on the first and second codon sequences of 12 protein coding genes (except ND6) shows that the clade of P. bindus is closely clustered with that of Gazza minuta, and families Rachycentridae and Carangidae have the closest relationship to Leiognathidae.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the white perch Morone americana is described in this study. The total length of M. americana mitogenome is 17,966 bp, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNA genes and a noncoding control region. As with several other species in Moronidae, the ND6 gene in M. americana is found within the control region rather than at the canonical position between the ND5 and CYTB genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on CYTB gene places M. americana within Moronidae and confirms its close relationship with yellow perch (M. mississippiensis). This study provides a basic resource for further research on genetic structure and demographic history of M. americana.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence and gene organization of Ambassis gymnocephalus (Perciformes, Ambassidae).

Project description:In this study, we firstly obtained the complete mitochondrial genome DNA sequence of the Ambassis gymnocephalus. Its length is 17,388 bp, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs and a large noncoding region. The overall length of protein coding genes is 11,448 bp, including A (26.75%), G (15.20%), T (26.44%) and C (31.61%). The A + T content of control region (1555 bp) is 60.45%. The protein-coding gene COI is started by GTG and ended by AGA. From the phylogenetic tree, we find A. gymnocephalus and Oreochromis niloticus has the closest relationship among 21 related species. This work will provide some valuable information for further studies on A. gymnocephalus and the family Ambassidae.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the giant mudskipper, Periophthalmodon schlosseri, was first reported in this study. The circle genome is 16 470 bp in length, with the base composition of 28.4% T, 15.4% G, 29.2% A and 27.0% C. The mitogenome includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and one D-loop region. Only the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 6 (NAD6) and eight tRNA genes are encoded on the light strand. The mitochondrial gene arrangement of P. schlosseri is similar to those of most other gobies. The phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining method showed that the kinship between Periophthalmodon and Periophthalmus is closer than those between Periophthalmodon and other selected genera. Our complete mitogenome data are going to provide the basis for taxonomic and phylogenetic research of amphibious mudskippers.

Complete sequence and characterization of the paradise fish Macropodus erythropterus (Perciformes: Macropodusinae) mitochondrial genome.

Project description:Macropodus erythropterus is a small well-known aquarium fish. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences of M. erythropterus were first determined. The mtDNA of M. erythropterus (GenBank accession no. KU215670) was a circular molecule of 16 495 bp in length with two ribosome RNA (rRNA) genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, an L-strand replication origin and a control region (CR). The entire mitogenome nucleotide acid was 15.71% for G, 29.66% for A, 28.37% for T and 26.26% for C with an A + T content of 58.03%. And the A + T contents of 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA and CR were 55.63%, 57.66% and 66.79%, respectively. This study provides basic molecular data for studying the conservation biology, phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis of Macropodusinae fishes.

A phylogenetic tree was built using 10 belonging to the order Perciformes and two species belonging to the order Scorpaeniformes.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Trematomus newnesi (Perciformes, Nototheniidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Trematomus newnesi was sequenced using an Illumina platform. The 18,602 bp mitogenome contains 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs, and 23 tRNAs (tRNAMet is duplicated). The eight stop codons are TAA, TAG, CTT, GTA, AAT, ACT, AGG, and TTA. Two start codons ATG and GTG are present. The GC content is 44.4% and AT content is 55.6%. A phylogenetic tree was generated using 13 species from three families. The results showed that T. newnesi is closely related to Pagothenia borchgrevinki in Nototheniidae. This study provides fundamental data for further genetic evolutionary studies on T. newnesi.
