Tuberculosis is a highly prevalent infectious disease with more than 1.5 million fatalities each year. Antibiotic treatment is available, but intolerable side effects and an increasing rate of drug-resistant strains of <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> (<i>Mtb</i>) may hamper successful outcomes.
