The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the mountain crab Indochinamon bhumibol.

ABSTRACT: Indochinamon bhumibol has been found as the biggest freshwater crab in Thailand. In this study, we report the first complete sequence of mitochondrial genome from I. bhumibol encoding 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNAs. The nucleotide composition of I. bhumibol mitogenome showed a strong AT bias (70.4%) with a low GC content (29.6%). Comparative phylogenetic analysis with 28 crustaceans based on nine conserved genes demonstrated that I. bhumibol was closely related to members of the Potamidae family.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of big-eyed mountain keelback Pseudoxenodon macrops was sequenced adopting Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology. The complete mitogenome of the species was 19,444 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and two non-coding control regions (CR). The overall base composition of mitogenome was 32.0% A, 25.5% T, 28.2% C, and 14.3% G. Most mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand, only ND6 and eight tRNA genes are on the light strand. We expect that the presented mitogenome can provide important data for future studies on phylogenetic relationship and population genetics of this species.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the karst-dwelling crab, Terrapotamon thungwa (Crustacea: Brachyura: Potamidae).

Project description:Terrapotamon thungwa is a new species of terrestrial long-legged crab discovered in a karst landscape of southern Thailand. Here, we report the first complete mitochondrial genome of this crab species. The mitochondrial genome size is 16,156 base-pairs (bp), including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The AT and GC content of the mitochondrial genome sequence is 73.2% and 26.8%, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis with 26 crustacean species, based on 13 mitochondrial conserve genes, showed that T. thungwa was closely related to other freshwater crab species in the family Potamidae.

Complete mitochondrial genome of xanthid crab Atergatis floridus (Linnaeus, 1767).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequenced from the floral egg crab Atergatis floridus (Linnaeus, 1767) and the determination of the position of the species in the reconstructed phylogenetic tree of the infraorder Brachyura using the protein coding mitochondrial genes are presented. Results show the mitochondrial genome length of A. floridus is 16,435 bp with nucleotide distribution as 33.4% A, 20.3% C, 10.5% G and 35.8% T. The structure of the complete mitochondrial genome of the species is the same as with the previous xanthid record. The result of the phylogenetic analysis suggests that A. floridus is the closest species to other Xanthidae species in the brachyuran records. This is the first complete mitochondrial genome record from the genus Atergatis.

Sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome for Hepu mitten crab (Eriocheir hepuensis) from Nanjiujiang River basin.

Project description:Taxonomic classification of Eriocheir hepuensis was ambiguous, and it has long been controversial. In this study, the whole mitochondrial genome of E. hepuensis was determined to be 16,397 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 1 control region. A total of 20 intergenic gaps were detected, and the AT content of whole mitochondrial genome was 71.78%. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that the evolutionary relationship of E. hepuensis, E. sinensis, and E. japonica are most likely to be three species with the same taxonomic status. The whole mitogenome of this species will be useful for the future animal evolutionary, phylogenetic relationship, phylogeny and genomic studies in the genus Eriocheir.

The complete mitochondrial genome of freshwater crab Sinopotamon xiushuiense (Decapoda: brachyura: Potamoidea).

Project description:We report for the first time the complete mitochondrial genome of Sinopotamon xiushuiense, which is found to be 18,460 bp in length, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), and 1 non-coding region known as the D-loop. In addition, the mitogenome has 18 intergenic regions ranging from 1 to 1221 bp in length. The complete mitogenome of S. xiushuiense is the longest among brachyurans reported in GenBank before November 2015, and its AT content is slightly lower than that in Geotholphusa dehaani. The mitogenome data provides a basis for further studies on population genetics and phylogenetics.

Project description:The complete mitogenome of Chiromantes haematocheir is 15 899 bp in length contains the typical set of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs) (ATP6, ATP8, COI-III, ND1-6, ND4L, and Cyt b), two rRNAs (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), 22 tRNAs, and a putative CR (D-loop). All PCGs start with an ATG codon except ND1 start with ATT and ND3 start with ATA. TAA is the most frequent stop codon, although COI end with TA-, and COII stop with the single nucleotide T-. The new mtDNA sequence contains 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA of rRNAs, separated with tRNAval. All tRNAs possess the typical clover leaf secondary structure except for tRNASer(AGN) and tRNALeu(CUN), which lacks a dihydroxyuridine (DHU) arm. The CR is 826 bp in length, located between 12S rRNA and tRNAGlx. The phylogenetic trees support Chiromantes haematochir has close relative with Sesarmops sinensis and Sesarmane glectum.

Project description:The outbreak of milky disease of Chinese mitten crab caused by M. bicuspidata seriously restricted the development of the crab industry. In this study, the mitochondrial genome sequence of M. bicuspidata was assembled, annotated, and further analyzed. The results indicated that the complete mitochondrial genome of M. bicuspidata was 75,095 bp, which contained two rRNAs, 23 tRNAs, and 13 protein-coding genes. The phylogenetic tree of 13 yeasts based on the complete mitochondrial genome was constructed which showed that M. bicuspidata (accession number OK514652) and M. bicuspidata (accession number MW147605.1) were clustered in a clade. To sum up, our research results would further provide essential data for the systematics and evolution study of M. bicuspidata.
