Neutral lipids (NLs) are apolar oil molecules synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum bilayer upon diverse biological stimuli. NLs synthesized are released in the hydrophobic core of the bilayer. At a critical concentration, NLs condense by phase separation and nucleate a lipid droplet (LD).
