The inhibitory G protein alpha-subunit (Gα<sub>z</sub>) is an important modulator of beta-cell function. Full-body Gα<sub>z</sub>-null mice are protected from hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance after long-term high-fat diet (HFD) feeding.
