The complete mitochondrial genome of Sarcophila mongolica (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).

ABSTRACT: Sarcophila mongolica Chao & Zhang, 1988 (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) is considered to be of ecological and medical significance. In this study, we report the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. mongolica. This mitogenome was composed of 15,936 bp in length (GenBank accession no. MT845211), comprising 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and a non-coding control region. The arrangement of genes was identical to that of ancestral metazoan. Nucleotide composition revealed a strong A + T bias, accounting for 75.40% (A 38.2%, G 9.7%, C 14.9%, and T 37.2%). Phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. mongolica was obviously separated from the other flesh flies. This mitogenome provides important genetic data for further understanding of the evolutionary relationship within Sarcophagid flies.

Project description:Sarcophaga brevicornis (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) was of utmost forensic importance due to their wide distribution, ubiquitous, and synanthropic nature. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. brevicornis was first sequenced and assembled in this study. The length of circular mitogenome was 15,152 bp, which showed in a typical arthropod genome, including 13 protein-coding genes (13 PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (two rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (22 tRNA) genes, and an AT-rich region. Its nucleotide composition was A 39.0%, C 12.7%, G 10.6%, and T 37.7%. Furthermore, phylogenetic relationships of S. brevicornis and the published sarcophagid species were evaluated based on 13 PCGs. The results indicated that S. brevicornis was clearly separated from the other sarcophagid species, but it was closed to the species of Sarcophaga similis. This study provided a significant database reference for genetic structure and phylogenetic analysis of Sarcophagidae.

Project description:Sarcophaga pterygota (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) plays a crucial role in medical and veterinary management. The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. pterygota was first sequenced and annotated. The circle DNA is composed of 13 protein-coding genes (13 PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (2 rRNAs), 22 transfer RNA (22 tRNAs) and a AT-rich region. It shows that arrangement of the genes is similar with the classical metazoan. The size of mitogenome is 15,236 bp containing A (40.0%), G (9.3%), T (36.6%), and C (14.1%). Moreover, phylogenetic analysis reveals that the branch of S. pterygota is clustered separately. This study enriches the mitogenome database of flesh flies and represents progress for analyzing of phylogenetic relationships.

Project description:Sarcophaga (Liosarcophaga) angarosinica (Rohdendorf, 1937) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) is a species of both medical and ecological significance. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. angarosinica was sequenced and characterized. The mitogenome has a total length of 15,215 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and an adenine and thymine-rich region. This mitogenome comprises 39.5% adenine, 9.4% guanine, 14.4% cytosine, and 36.8% thymine. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that S. angarosinica is closely related to Sarcophaga similis. This study enriches the genetic data on S. angarosinica and will contribute to establishing the phylogenetic relationships among flesh flies.

The length of this mitogenome was 15,233 bp with 39.4% A, 9.5% G, 14.3% C, and 36.8% T. The mitogenome of S. polystylata was composed of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and a non-coding control region. Phylogenetic tree indicated that S. polystylata and Sarcophaga peregrina clustered together closely, both of which separated clearly from other species. This study provides the mitochondrial genetic data of S. polystylata for further understanding the phylogenetic relationship of sarcophagids species.

The length of this mitogenome was 15,720 bp in total (GenBank accession No. MW551788), containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and a non-coding control region. Its nucleotide composition was A (39.7%), C (14.1%), G (9.4%), and T (36.9%). The phylogenetic relationships indicated that the species of S. caerulescens was closely related to S. similis. This study provides the mitochondrial data of S. caerulescens for further study of mitochondrial genome and enriches our understanding of the phylogenetic relationship of sarcophagid flies.

Nucleotide composition is A 38.0%, G 9.9%, C 14.9%, T 37.2%, respectively. It reveals a strong A + T bias (75.2%). Phylogenetic analysis indicates that the species-level relationship between S. rasnitzyni and S. mongolica closely clusters together, and separates clearly from the rest of species. This study provides important genetic data for further enriching our understanding of phylogenetic relationship of sarcophagids species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Sarcophaga tuberosa (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).

Project description:Sarcophaga tuberosa has certain sanitary and epidemiological significance and takes proteins from decaying matter. In this study, we first sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. tuberosa. The length of mitogenome was 15,173 bp, consisting of A (39.5%), G (9.4%), T (37.0%), and C (14.1%), and the order and orientation of genes were identical with that from the mittogenomes of flesh flies previously reported. Phylogenetic analyses showed that S. tuberosa was clustered separately, but which was closed to the species of Sarcophaga portschinskyi. This study provided better support for further understanding of phylogenetic relationships and enriched the mitogenome database of flesh flies.

Project description:Sarcophaga tsinanensis (Fan, 1964) (Diptera: Sarcophagidae), a species from subgenus Heteronychia. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of S. tsinanensis. The length of this mitogenome was 14,972 bp in total, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and a non-coding control region. The arrangement of genes was the same as that of ancestral metazoan. Sarcophaga tsinanensis has a high nucleotide bias in A/T accounting for 76.80% of total nucleotides (A 39.9%, G 9.2%, C 13.9%, and T 36.9%). The result of phylogenetic analysis revealed that S. tsinanensis cluster together with species from the same subgenus Heteronychia, showing a clear monophyletic relationship. Sarcophaga tsinanensis is closely related to its sister species Sarcophaga depressifrons, Sarcophaga plotnikovi, and Sarcophaga shnitnikovi. This study provides the mitochondrial data of S. tsinanensis for further research on evolutionary relationships and species identification of flesh flies.
