Complete Genomic Sequences of Campylobacter coli Strains Isolated from Poultry Sold in Pennsylvania Farmers' Markets.

ABSTRACT: Campylobacter strains were collected in a survey of fresh chicken carcasses in Pennsylvania farmers' markets. Three Campylobacter coli strains were observed to have unique sequence variations in their gyrase subunit B genes, compared with other Campylobacter strains. The strains were sequenced and analyzed, producing genome sequences consisting of single closed chromosomes.

Project description:Four wild-type Campylobacter jejuni strains isolated from the cecal contents of broiler chickens were sequenced. The average genome size was 1,622,170 bp, with 1,667 to 1,761 coding sequences and 47 to 51 RNAs. Multiple genes encoding motility, intestinal colonization, toxin production, stress tolerance, and multidrug resistance were present in all the strains.

Project description:Genome sequences of Campylobacter jejuni FJ3124 and ZP3204 isolated from retail chicken gizzards and Campylobacter jejuni TS1218 isolated from retail chicken showed the presence of 1,694,324-, 1,763,161-, and 1,762,596-bp circular chromosomes, respectively. Campylobacter jejuni ZP3204 and TS1218 harbored large tetracycline resistance plasmids with type IV secretion systems.
