Tenascin C (TNC) is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein that recently emerged as an immunomodulator. TNC-deficient (TNC<sup>-/-</sup>) mice were reported to have a reduced inflammatory response upon systemic administration of lipopolysaccharide, the toxic component of gram-negative bacteria.
