Accurate gene transcription in eukaryotes depends on isomerization of serine-proline bonds within the carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II. Isomerization is part of the "CTD code" that regulates recruitment of proteins required for transcription and co-transcriptional RNA processing.
