The complete mitochondrial genome of Scyra compressipes Stimpson, 1857 (Decapoda: Epialtidae).

ABSTRACT: The family Epialtidae is the most diversified family within superfamily Majoidea but there is no report for complete mitogenome of any species in this family. This study was performed to sequence a complete mitogenome of Scyra compressipes Stimpson, 1857, as the first mitochondrial genome report from the Epialtidae. The complete mitogenome sequence of S. compressipes was 16,415 bp and it consisted of 36 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, and 21 tRNA genes excluding tRNA-Leu (UAG). tRNA genes ranged from 63 bp to 72 bp in length. The base composition of a complete mitogenome of S. compressipes is 34.7% A, 15.3% C, 10.2% G, and 39.8% T. The phylogenetic position of S. compressipes in the superfamily Majoidea was examined based on 13 PCGs. The phylogenetic analysis showed that S. compressipes was most closely related to Maguimithrax spinosissimus, a representative of the family Mithracidae.

Here we report the complete mitochondrial genome of Lupocycloporus gracilimanus (Stimpson, 1858) which is the first mitochondrial genome reported in genus Lupocycloporus by now. The mitogenome is 15,990 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and a putative control region. The phylogenetic analysis showed that L. gracilimanus was closest to genus Scylla. The present research should provide valuable information for phylogenetic analysis and classification of Portunidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Trachypenaeus curvirostris (Stimpson, 1860).

Project description:Trachypenaeus curvirostris is a common and important shrimp species in the shallow waters of Indo-West Pacific. In this study, the mitochondrial genome of T. curvirostris was determined for the first time using next-generation sequencing; the overall base components of mitogenome consisting of 15968 bp was 35.16% (5614 bp) for A, 33.51% (5351 bp) for T, 11.54% (1842 bp) for G, 19.80% (3161 bp) for C, and its GC content was 31.34%. The mitochondrial circular genome was composed of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 1 D-loop and 2 ribosomal RNAs. Polygenetic analysis showed that the T. curvirostris was more closed to Parapenaeopsis hardwickii.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Mya japonica (Jay, 1857 Myida:myidae).

Project description:The soft-shell clam Mya japonica (Jay, 1857) is a commercially important fishery resource. In this study, we identified the complete mitochondrial genome of M. japonica and performed a phylogenetic analysis to explore its genetic relationship with Mya arenaria. The genome is 21,396 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 23 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and 5 D-Loop control regions. The atp8 gene was annotated in Myidae for the first time. Notably, the genome contains an additional trnM, consistent with M. arenaria. The length of the cox2 gene is 1,947 bp, which is 513 bp longer than that in M. arenaria. Its base composition is 29.14% A, 37.26% T, 10.89% C, and 22.71% G. Phylogenetic analysis based on 12 PCGs and 2 rRNAs indicates that M. japonica and M. arenaria form a sister group. In this study, the identification and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of M. japonica provide significant information for future taxonomic and evolutionary research of the genus Mya.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Leptodius sanguineus (Decapoda, Xanthidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequenced from a xanthid crab, Leptodius sanguineus which was collected from a rocky intertidal area in Chuuk lagoon. The mitochondrial genome size of L. sanguineus evaluated as 15,480 bp with 33.6% A, 24% C, 11.2% G and 31.2% T and mitochondrial gene order of L. sanguineus is typical to brachyuran species. Phylogenetic analysis shows that the family Xanthidae has sister group relationship with a lineage including the families Portunidae and Menippidae in the subsection Heterotremata. This is the first report for the complete mitochondrial genome from the xanthid crabs.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Penaeus semisulcatus (Decapoda: Penaeidae).

Project description:The green tiger prawn, Penaeus semisulcatus, is one of the economically important penaeid shrimp due to its larger body size compared with other shrimps in Penaeidae family. However, the taxonomic revision studies of Penaeidae have been one of the most controversial issues in recent years. Moreover, there are at least two morphotypes of the green tiger prawn, one with banded antenna, another with non-banded antenna. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of P. semisulcatus. The mitogenome has 16,002 base pairs (68.6% A + T content) and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a control region. This study adds one more available complete mitogenomes of Penaeus and will provide useful genetic information for future evolutionary and taxonomic classification of Penaeidae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Scylla paramamosain (Decapoda: Portunidae).

Project description:The mud crab Scylla paramamosain (Decapoda:Portunidae) is a commercially important crustacean species in China, which is broadly distributed along the southeastern coastal regions of China. In previous studies, the population from Beibu Bay showed distinct genetic lineage. Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of S. paramamosain from Beibu Bay. The mitogenome has 15,816 base pairs and made up of total of 37 genes (13 protein-coding, 22 transfer RNAs and 2 ribosomal RNAs), and a putative control region. The complete mitogenome in the Beibu Bay population was shorter than that in the Shenzhen population, because the non-coding region between tRNA-Glu and tRNA-His was shorter in the former, and there were 59 mutations sites between these two populations. This study adds a distinct mitogenomes of S. paramamosain and will provide useful genetic information for future genetic variation identification and genetic diversity evaluation of this economic valuable crab.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Thor amboinensis (Hippolytidae, Decapoda).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Thor amboinensis was obtained and described in this study. This complete mitochondrial genome is 15,553 bp in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. Twenty-two genes were encoded by the heavy strand. The overall base composition of the heavy-strand was 36.09% A, 12.36% G, 14.54% C, and 37.01% T, with a high G + C content of 26.90%. The phylogenetic analysis suggested that T. amboinensis was closest to Lebbeus groenlandicus. The newly described mitochondrial genome may provide valuable data for phylogenetic analysis for Hippolytidae.
