Complete chloroplast genome sequence of a Chinese traditional cultivar in Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum morifolium 'Anhuishiliuye'.

ABSTRACT: The complete plastid genome of Chrysanthemum morifolium 'Anhuishiliuye', a Chinese traditional cultivar, was determined and analyzed in this work. It had a circular-mapping molecular with the length of 151,059 bp.The LSC and SSC of 82,857 bp and 18,294 bp were separated by two IRs of 24,954 bp. The chloroplast genome of C. morifolium 'Anhuishiliuye' contains 125 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 34 ribosomal RNA genes and 8 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. morifolium 'Anhuishiliuye' clustered together with other Chrysanthemum species. The data provided would be useful for elucidation of phylogenetics and evolution in Chrysanthemum cultivars.

The chloroplast genome of C. morifolium 'Orizaba' contains 125 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 34 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. morifolium 'Orizaba' clustered together with other Chrysanthemum varieties in the family Asteraceae. The plastome is useful for the elucidation of phylogenetics and evolution in the Asteraceae and Chrysanthemum varieties.

Project description:Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat 1792 cultivar 'Hangbaiju', also known as 'Hangzhou White Chrysanthemum', originates from Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China. It is celebrated as one of Zhejiang's 'eight flavors'. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of Chrysanthemum × morifolium cultivar 'Hangbaiju'. The genome has a circular structure of 151,110 bp containing a large single-copy region (LSC) of 82,851 bp, a small copy region (SSC) of 18,351 bp, and two inverted repeats (IR) of 24,936 and 24,972 bp in length. It comprises 128 genes: 85 protein-coding gene, 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 35 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Phylogenetic analysis, based on complete chloroplast genomes, demonstrates that Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Hangbaiju' shares a close genetic cluster with Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Fubaiju' (MT1919691.1). Notably, 'Fubaiju' was introduced to Macheng, Hubei Province from Tongxiang in 1968 according to public information. The chloroplast genome data, coupled with morphological and historical records, strongly suggest that they are the same variety known by different names based on their cultivation locations.

Project description:Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Fubaiju,' which is native to Macheng, Hubei, China, has a long cultivation history almost dating back to the early 10th century Song dynasty, and is used as Chrysanthemum tea drink and Chinese traditional medicine. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome sequence of 'Fubaiju' was 151,109 bp, included a large single copy LSC (82,931 bp), a small single copy SSC (18,350 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (24,941 bp). It contained 132 genes with 87 CDS, 8r RNA, and 37 tRNA. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the C. × morifolium 'Fubaiju' was clustered together with C. × morifolium 'Baekma'.

Project description:Uncaria macrophylla (Rubiaceae) is a medicinal vine plant of the Rubiaceae family that was distributed in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The first complete chloroplast genome of Uncaria macrophylla was sequenced and assembled in this study. The genome is 155,138 bp in length and contained 129 encoded genes in total, including 79 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. The phylogenomic analysis showed that U. macrophylla was closely related to Uncaria rhynchophylla according to the current sampling extent.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ilex latifolia (Aquifoliaceae), a traditional Chinese tea.

Project description:Ilex latifolia (Aquifoliaceae), commonly known as 'kudingcha', is an evergreen tree widely distributed in southwest China. It is well known for its health function due to possess antioxidant, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ischemic activities. Here, we first report and characterize its complete chloroplast genome based on Illumina paired-end sequencing data. The complete plastid genome was 157,601 bp, which contained inverted repeats (IR) of 26,077 bp separated by a large single-copy (LSC) and a small single copy (SSC) of 87,020 bp and 18,427 bp, respectively. The cpDNA contains 143 genes, comprising 95 protein-coding genes, 40 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the plastome is 37.6%. The phylogenetic analysis of 18 selected chloroplast genomes demonstrated that I. latifolia is closely related to the congeneric I. integra.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Pueraria thomsonii, an important traditional Chinese medicine plant.

Project description:Pueraria thomsonii is a leguminous plant with high root yield and starch content. It is also a medicinal material in the Chinese pharmacopeia. However, the raw materials of P. thomsonii are often confused with some non-medicinal Pueraria plants. To enrich the genetic resources of P. thomsonii and guide its molecular identification, the complete chloroplast genome was sequenced and reported. The total genome of P. thomsonii is 153,434 bp in length. consisting of two inverted repeat regions (IRS, 25,640 bp each) separated by a large single-copy (LSC, 84,155 bp) and a small single-copy region (SSC, 17,999 bp). The overall GC content is 35.41%. It contains 130 genes, including 85 protein coding genes, 8 rRNA genes and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that P. thomsonii could be distinguished from other plants and closely related to the legume Pachyrhizus erosus. This study enriches the genetic information of P. thomsonii and contributes to the screening of excellent germplasm.

The chloroplast genome of T. terrestris is circular-mapping molecule of 158,184 bp in size, which consisted of a pair of inverted repeat regions of 25,842 bp each, a large single copy region of 88,878 bp, and a small single copy region of 17,622 bp. A total of 129 genes were annotated, including 37 tRNA, 8 rRNA, and 84 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed T. terrestris clustered with Krameria lanceolate and Krameria bicolor.

Project description:Achyranthes bidentata (Amarathaceae) has been commonly used as a traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of osteoporosis and bone nonunion. Here, the complete chloroplast genome of A. bidentata was assembled and characterized. The cp genome is 151,451 bp in length, composed of a pair of 25,150 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region of 83,899 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,252 bp. The whole cp genome of A. bidentata contains 130 genes(85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs and eight rRNAs) and the overall GC content is 36.5%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the cp genome data showed that A. bidentata was close to Cyathula capitata.
