Inference of stress-strength reliability for two-parameter of exponentiated Gumbel distribution based on lower record values.

ABSTRACT: The two-parameter of exponentiated Gumbel distribution is an important lifetime distribution in survival analysis. This paper investigates the estimation of the parameters of this distribution by using lower records values. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) procedure of the parameters is considered, and the Fisher information matrix of the unknown parameters is used to construct asymptotic confidence intervals. Bayes estimator of the parameters and the corresponding credible intervals are obtained by using the Gibbs sampling technique. Two real data set is provided to illustrate the proposed methods.

Parametric inference of the process capability index for exponentiated exponential distribution.

Project description:Process capability indices (PCIs) are most effective devices/techniques used in industries for determining the quality of products and performance of manufacturing processes. In this article, we consider the PCI Cpc which is based on the proportion of conformance and is applicable to normally as well as non-normally and continuous as well as discrete distributed processes. In order to estimate the PCI Cpc when the process follows exponentiated exponential distribution, we have used five classical methods of estimation. The performances of these classical estimators are compared with respect to their biases and mean squared errors (MSEs) of the index Cpc through simulation study. Also, the confidence intervals for the index Cpc are constructed using five bootstrap confidence interval (BCIs) methods. Monte Carlo simulation study has been carried out to compare the performances of these five BCIs in terms of their average width and coverage probabilities. Besides, net sensitivity (NS) analysis for the given PCI Cpc is considered. We use two data sets related to electronic and food industries and two failure time data sets to illustrate the performance of the proposed methods of estimation and BCIs. Additionally, we have developed PCI Cpc using aforementioned methods for generalized Rayleigh distribution.

Reliability analysis of multicomponent stress-strength reliability from a bathtub-shaped distribution.

Project description:In this paper, inference for a multicomponent stress-strength model is studied. When latent strength and stress random variables follow a bathtub-shaped distribution and the failure times are Type-II censored, the maximum likelihood estimate of the multicomponent stress-strength reliability (MSR) is established when there are common strength and stress parameters. Approximate confidence interval is also constructed by using the asymptotic distribution theory and delta method. Furthermore, another alternative generalized point and confidence interval estimators for the MSR are constructed based on pivotal quantities. Moreover, the likelihood and the pivotal quantities-based estimates for the MSR are also provided under unequal strength and stress parameter case. To compare the equivalence of the stress and strength parameters, the likelihood ratio test for hypothesis of interest is also provided. Finally, simulation studies and a real data example are given for illustration.

Cell size distribution of lineage data: analytic results and parameter inference.

Project description:Recent advances in single-cell technologies have enabled time-resolved measurements of the cell size over several cell cycles. These data encode information on how cells correct size aberrations so that they do not grow abnormally large or small. Here, we formulate a piecewise deterministic Markov model describing the evolution of the cell size over many generations, for all three cell size homeostasis strategies (timer, sizer, and adder). The model is solved to obtain an analytical expression for the non-Gaussian cell size distribution in a cell lineage; the theory is used to understand how the shape of the distribution is influenced by the parameters controlling the dynamics of the cell cycle and by the choice of cell tracking protocol. The theoretical cell size distribution is found to provide an excellent match to the experimental cell size distribution of E. coli lineage data collected under various growth conditions.

Exponentiated Teissier distribution with increasing, decreasing and bathtub hazard functions.

Project description:This article introduces a two-parameter exponentiated Teissier distribution. It is the main advantage of the distribution to have increasing, decreasing and bathtub shapes for its hazard rate function. The expressions of the ordinary moments, identifiability, quantiles, moments of order statistics, mean residual life function and entropy measure are derived. The skewness and kurtosis of the distribution are explored using the quantiles. In order to study two independent random variables, stress-strength reliability and stochastic orderings are discussed. Estimators based on likelihood, least squares, weighted least squares and product spacings are constructed for estimating the unknown parameters of the distribution. An algorithm is presented for random sample generation from the distribution. Simulation experiments are conducted to compare the performances of the considered estimators of the parameters and percentiles. Three sets of real data are fitted by using the proposed distribution over the competing distributions.

Influence of parameter values on the oscillation sensitivities of two p53-Mdm2 models.

Project description:Biomolecular networks that present oscillatory behavior are ubiquitous in nature. While some design principles for robust oscillations have been identified, it is not well understood how these oscillations are affected when the kinetic parameters are constantly changing or are not precisely known, as often occurs in cellular environments. Many models of diverse complexity level, for systems such as circadian rhythms, cell cycle or the p53 network, have been proposed. Here we assess the influence of hundreds of different parameter sets on the sensitivities of two configurations of a well-known oscillatory system, the p53 core network. We show that, for both models and all parameter sets, the parameter related to the p53 positive feedback, i.e. self-promotion, is the only one that presents sizeable sensitivities on extrema, periods and delay. Moreover, varying the parameter set values to change the dynamical characteristics of the response is more restricted in the simple model, whereas the complex model shows greater tunability. These results highlight the importance of the presence of specific network patterns, in addition to the role of parameter values, when we want to characterize oscillatory biochemical systems.

The published literature contains an abundance of values reported for many enzymes. The problem concerns assessing the appropriateness and validity of such material for the purpose to which it is to be applied. This review considers the evaluation of such data with particular emphasis on the assessment of its fitness for purpose.

Image-based parameter inference for epithelial mechanics.

Project description:Measuring mechanical parameters in tissues, such as the elastic modulus of cell-cell junctions, is essential to decipher the mechanical control of morphogenesis. However, their in vivo measurement is technically challenging. Here, we formulated an image-based statistical approach to estimate the mechanical parameters of epithelial cells. Candidate mechanical models are constructed based on force-cell shape correlations obtained from image data. Substitution of the model functions into force-balance equations at the cell vertex leads to an equation with respect to the parameters of the model, by which one can estimate the parameter values using a least-squares method. A test using synthetic data confirmed the accuracy of parameter estimation and model selection. By applying this method to Drosophila epithelial tissues, we found that the magnitude and orientation of feedback between the junction tension and shrinkage, which are determined by the spring constant of the junction, were correlated with the elevation of tension and myosin-II on shrinking junctions during cell rearrangement. Further, this method clarified how alterations in tissue polarity and stretching affect the anisotropy in tension parameters. Thus, our method provides a novel approach to uncovering the mechanisms governing epithelial morphogenesis.

Exponentiated Odd Lomax Exponential distribution with application to COVID-19 death cases of Nepal.

Project description:This study suggested a new four-parameter Exponentiated Odd Lomax Exponential (EOLE) distribution by compounding an exponentiated odd function with Lomax distribution as a generator. The proposed model is unimodal and positively skewed whereas the hazard rate function is monotonically increasing and inverted bathtubs. Some important properties of the new distribution are derived such as quintile function and median; asymptotic properties and mode; moments; mean residual life, mean path time; mean deviation; order statistics; and Bonferroni & Lorenz curve. The value of the parameters is obtained from the maximum likelihood estimation, least-square estimation, and Cramér-Von-Mises methods. Here, a simulation study and two real data sets, "the number of deaths per day due to COVID-19 of the first wave in Nepal" and ''failure stresses (In Gpa) of single carbon fibers of lengths 50 mm", have been applied to validate the different theoretical findings. The finding of an order of COVID-19 deaths in 153 days in Nepal obey the proposed distribution, it has a significantly positive relationship between the predictive test positive rate and the predictive number of deaths per day. Therefore, the intended model is an alternative model for survival data and lifetime data analysis.

Alpha-Power Exponentiated Inverse Rayleigh distribution and its applications to real and simulated data.

Project description:The main goal of the current paper is to contribute to the existing literature of probability distributions. In this paper, a new probability distribution is generated by using the Alpha Power Family of distributions with the aim to model the data with non-monotonic failure rates and provides a better fit. The proposed distribution is called Alpha Power Exponentiated Inverse Rayleigh or in short APEIR distribution. Various statistical properties have been investigated including they are the order statistics, moments, residual life function, mean waiting time, quantiles, entropy, and stress-strength parameter. To estimate the parameters of the proposed distribution, the maximum likelihood method is employed. It has been proved theoretically that the proposed distribution provides a better fit to the data with monotonic as well as non-monotonic hazard rate shapes. Moreover, two real data sets are used to evaluate the significance and flexibility of the proposed distribution as compared to other probability distributions.
