Patients with a disorder of mitochondrial long-chain fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) have reduced fasting tolerance and may present with hypoketotic hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, (cardio)myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Patients should avoid a catabolic state because it increases reliance on FAO as energy source.
