The NAD<sup>+</sup>-dependent deacetylase SIRT1 controls key metabolic functions by deacetylating target proteins and strategies that promote SIRT1 function such as SIRT1 overexpression or NAD<sup>+</sup> boosters alleviate metabolic complications.
