Endolysins are bacteriophage-encoded peptidoglycan hydrolases targeting the cell wall of host bacteria <i>via</i> their cell wall-binding domains (CBDs). The molecular basis for selective recognition of surface carbohydrate ligands by CBDs remains elusive.
