A new type of push-pull charge transfer complex, <i>viz.</i>, a spiro-locked N-heterocycle-fused zinc porphyrin, <b>ZnP-SQ</b>, is shown to undergo excited state charge separation, which is enhanced by axial F<sup>-</sup> binding to the Zn center.
