<i>Mycobacterium ulcerans</i> is the causal agent of Buruli ulcer, a chronic infectious disease and the third most common mycobacterial disease worldwide. Without early treatment, <i>M. ulcerans</i> provokes massive skin ulcers, caused by the mycolactone toxin, its main virulence factor.
