Complete chloroplast genome sequence of a Dutch cultivar of Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum morifolium 'Orizaba' (Asteraceae).

ABSTRACT: The complete plastid genome of Chrysanthemum morifolium 'Orizaba', a cultivar from Holland, was determined and analyzed in this work. It is a circular chromosome and has a length of 151,060 bp. The LSC and SSC of 82,858 bp and 18,294 bp were separated by two IRs of 24,954 bp. The chloroplast genome of C. morifolium 'Orizaba' contains 125 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 34 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. morifolium 'Orizaba' clustered together with other Chrysanthemum varieties in the family Asteraceae. The plastome is useful for the elucidation of phylogenetics and evolution in the Asteraceae and Chrysanthemum varieties.

Project description:Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat 1792 cultivar 'Hangbaiju', also known as 'Hangzhou White Chrysanthemum', originates from Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China. It is celebrated as one of Zhejiang's 'eight flavors'. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of Chrysanthemum × morifolium cultivar 'Hangbaiju'. The genome has a circular structure of 151,110 bp containing a large single-copy region (LSC) of 82,851 bp, a small copy region (SSC) of 18,351 bp, and two inverted repeats (IR) of 24,936 and 24,972 bp in length. It comprises 128 genes: 85 protein-coding gene, 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 35 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Phylogenetic analysis, based on complete chloroplast genomes, demonstrates that Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Hangbaiju' shares a close genetic cluster with Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Fubaiju' (MT1919691.1). Notably, 'Fubaiju' was introduced to Macheng, Hubei Province from Tongxiang in 1968 according to public information. The chloroplast genome data, coupled with morphological and historical records, strongly suggest that they are the same variety known by different names based on their cultivation locations.

Here, we determined the complete chloroplast genome sequence for C. boreale using long-read sequencing. The chloroplast genome was 151,012 bp and consisted of a large single copy (LSC) region (82,817 bp), a small single copy (SSC) region (18,281 bp) and two inverted repeats (IRs) (24,957 bp). It was predicted to contain 131 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs and 46 tRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis of chloroplast genomes clustered C. boreale with other Chrysanthemum and Asteraceae species.

In this study, the complete chloroplast genome sequence of 'Fubaiju' was 151,109 bp, included a large single copy LSC (82,931 bp), a small single copy SSC (18,350 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (24,941 bp). It contained 132 genes with 87 CDS, 8r RNA, and 37 tRNA. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the C. × morifolium 'Fubaiju' was clustered together with C. × morifolium 'Baekma'.

Project description:Chrysanthemum is an important ornamental, herbal, and medicinal plant. We report the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Chrysanthemum boreale. The mitogenome is 211,002 bp in length, has a GC content of 45.36%, and contains 58 genes, including 35 protein-coding genes, three ribosomal RNA genes, and 20 transfer RNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis based on mitogenome protein sequences from various plants confirmed that C. boreale belongs to the Asteraceae family. This mitogenome will be useful in evolutionary and phylogenetic studies of Chrysanthemum and Asteraceae.

The paucity of genetic information for this species has made it difficult for studies on the underlying genetic mechanism of its invasiveness. Herein, we report the de novo chloroplast genome assembly of S. trilobata using Illumina whole-genome sequencing data. The chloroplast genome was 151,939 bp in length, with a large single copy (LSC) region of 83,405 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,448 bp, separated by two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,044 bp each. A total of 134 genes were annotated for the chloroplast genome assembly, including 86 protein-encoding genes. Phylogenetic analysis suggested close relationship between S. trilobata and Eclipta prostrata.

The whole genome contains 130 genes, including 86 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that C. cyanus is close to Carthamus. tinctorius, C. tinctorius, C. diffusa, and C. maculosa, and all of them were in one clade. This study provides genetic resource information for the further study of Centaurea.

Project description:The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Neopallasia pectinata was sequenced and analyzed in this study. It was 150,766 bp in length and has a typical circular structure, including a large single copy (LSC) with 82,605 bp, two inverted repeats (IRs) with 24,944 bp, and a small single copy (SSC) with 18,273 bp. The phylogenetic analysis of N. pectinata and its related taxa was conducted depended on the complete cp-genome sequences. The maximum likelihood tree indicates a close relationship between Chrysanthemum and Neopallasia. The cp-genome of N. pectinata is useful for future phylogenetic studies of Asteraceae.

The chloroplast genome was 151,011 bp in length, comprising a large single-copy region of 82,751 bp, a small single copy region of 18,348 bp and a pair of inverted repeats of 24,956 bp. The genome contained 80 protein-coding genes, 4 rRNA genes and 30 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic tree revealed that A. fukudo was closely located in other Artemisia species, Artemisia montana and Artemisia frigida.
