Metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) can efficiently catalyze the hydrolysis of all classes of β-lactam antibiotics except monobactams. While serine-β-lactamase (SBL) inhibitors (e.g., clavulanic acid, avibactam) are established for clinical use, no such MBL inhibitors are available.
