The complete mitochondrial genome of Hylarana latouchii (Anura: Ranidae) and its phylogenetic analysis.

ABSTRACT: We reported the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of broad-folded frog (Hylarana latouchii). This mitogenome is 17,007 bp in size and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and one non-coding sequence (D-loop). The total composition was 58.54% A + T and 41.46% G + C (T: 29.31%, C: 27.33%, A: 29.23%, and G: 14.13%). The phylogenetic analysis revealed that H. latouchii formed a clade with other two species of genus Hylarana. This mitogenomic sequence of H. latouchii provides useful data to study its population genetics and phylogeography.

Characterization of complete mitochondrial genome of Hylarana guentheri (Anura: Ranidae) and its phylogenetic implication.

Project description:The Günther's frog (Hylarana guentheri) belongs to a member of the family Ranidae. We provide a complete mitogenome of H. guentheri and examine its phylogenetic position with other related species. Its mitogenome is a closed circular molecule 18,698 bp in length including 13 protein coding genes, 22 tRNA coding genes, two rRNA-coding genes, and a control region (CR) that are conserved in most Ranidae mitogenomes. The overall base composition of the H. guentheri mitogenome is 29.27% A, 30.45% T, 26.14% C, and 14.15% G, which is typical for Amphibious animals' mitochondrial genomes. The alignment of the Ranidae species control regions showed high levels of genetic variation and abundant AT content. Seven tandem repeats were found in the control region. Phylogenetic analysis with Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood based on 13 protein-coding genes indicated that H. guentheri is more closely related to Nidirana okinavana than to Babina subaspera and B. holsti. The complete mitogenome of H. guentheri provides a potentially useful resource for further exploration of the taxonomic status and phylogenetic relationships of Hylarana and related species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Rana wuyiensis (Anura, Ranidae) and its phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Rana wuyiensis (Anura, Ranidae) was sequenced and annotated. The circular complete mitogenome was 17,779 bp in length (OL467321) and constituted of 37 genes including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and a D-loop region. The result of Bayesian phylogenetic analysis indicated that R. wuyiensis exhibits a close relationship with R. johnsi. R. wuyiensis was recently discovered and therefore holds a lot of potential for future research studies. Our study added a new mitochondrial data and provided valuable reference material to the taxonomy of Rana.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Rana coreana (Anura: Ranidae).

Project description:Rana coreana is a brown frog species native to the Korean Peninsula. We characterized the complete mitochondrial genome of the species. The mitochondrial genome sequence of R. coreana is 22,262 bp and comprises 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and two control regions (CRs). The CR duplication and gene organization were identical to those observed in Rana kunyuensis and Rana amurensis. A total of 13 protein-coding genes were used to examine the phylogenetic relationships between this species and the genus Rana. R. coreana living on the Korean Peninsula, formed a cluster with R. kunyuensis and R. amurensis, with R. coreana showing the closest phylogenetic affinity for R. kunyuensis.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Odorrana grahami (Anura: Ranidae).

Project description:The mitochondrial genome of the Disckless-fingered Odorous Frog, Odorrana grahami (Anura: Ranidae), was sequenced using high-throughput sequencing technology. The genome length was 17864 bp, including 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes and 1 control region (D-loop). The AT content of the mitochondrial genome was 55.9%. The composition of mitochondrial genome of O. grahami is similar to that of other species of the genus Odorrana. Phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genomes of six congeners shows that O. grahami is sister to O. margaretae, but the analysis using 16S rRNA gene of additional congeners do not resolve their relationships.

Project description:We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Rana uenoi (Anura: Ranidae) for the first time. The whole sequences were 17,370 bp and included 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The gene arrangement was completely identical to those observed from other Ranidae species. We used 11 protein-coding genes to examine the phylogenetic placement of this species in the genus Rana. Rana dybowskii was the closest sister species to R. uenoi. The clade of R. uenoi and R. dybowskii formed a cluster with Rana huarensis, which had a sister relationship with the group of Rana amurensis, Rana coreana, and Rana kunyuensis.

The mitogenome is a circular molecule of 18 610 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 21 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and a non-coding D-loop region (control region). Its gene arrangements are identical to the typical neobatrachian-type except for the loss of tRNAHis gene. Our data provide a useful resource for the phylogenetic studies of genus Odorrana.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Rana dabieshanensis (Anura: Ranidae).

Project description:Rana dabieshanensis is a species of frog within the family Ranidae. In this study, we assembled a complete mitochondrial genome (mito-genome) for R. dabieshanensis by high-throughput sequencing technology. It is 18,291 bp and includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one control region. The nucleotide composition is A: 27.0%, T: 28.6%, C: 29.3% and G: 15.2%. Two overlaps among the 13 protein-coding genes were found: ATP8/ATP6, ND4L/ND4. The study of phylogenetic analysis based on complete mitochondrial genome showed that there was close genetic relationship between R. dabieshanensis and R. omeimontis and it is useful for systematic analyses of genus Rana.

The nucleotide composition was 28.1% A, 26.8% C, 14.8% G, and 30.3% T. Mitochondrial genome analyses based on the NJ method yield phylogenetic trees, including the 13 already reported Ranidae family frogs. The molecular data presented here provide a useful tool for systematic analyses of genus Rugosa and Glandirana.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the American bullfrog in Korea, Lithobates catesbeianus (Anura: Ranidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial (mt) genome of Lithobates catesbeianus was sequenced and characterized. The circular mt genome was constituted of of 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNAs) and a non-coding region (NCR). Phylogenetic analysis based on the full mt genome sequences confirmed that among the genus Lithobates, L. catesbeianus Korea is included in a monophyletic group with L. catesbeianus China, but not with either L. catesbeianus Japan or L. catesbeianus Canada. This is the first completed mt genome from L. catesbeianus Korea, which provide data for further study of phylogeny in Lithobates spp. that have been introduced into a number of different countries originally from North America.
