The genus Diplocheila Brulle, 1834 in Cambodia, with descriptions of two new species (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Licinini).

ABSTRACT: The Diplocheila species recorded from Cambodia are discussed and two new species, Diplocheila walterrossii sp. nov. and D. erwini sp. nov. are described. Moreover, the holotypes of D. laevigata (Bates, 1892) and D. laevigotoides Jedlička, 1936, two often misinterpreted species from the Oriental Region, are illustrated and some aspects of their morphology are clarified. Finally, an analytical key to all species recorded from Cambodia is provided.

Project description:The genus Tasmanitachoides Erwin, a genus of very small carabid beetle endemic to Australia, is reviewed. Although uncommon in collections, they can be abundant and diverse on banks of fine gravel or coarse sand next to bodies of fresh water; samples from southeastern Australia suggest numerous undescribed species. An initial phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus is presented, including 19 of the 32 known species. The inferred phylogeny, based upon one mitochondrial and four nuclear genes, shows the kingi group to be sister to remaining Tasmanitachoides, with the wattsensis group and T. lutus (Darlington) also being phylogenetically isolated. Two new species are described: T. baehri sp. nov., from the Australian Capital Territory, is a member of the kingi group; T. erwini sp. nov., from Tasmania, is a member of the wattsensis group. Identification tools for described and some undescribed species are presented, including photographs of all known species.

Project description:This monograph on the genus Salcedia Fairmaire, 1899 revises the nine described species S. perrieri Fairmaire, 1899, S. coquilhati Alluaud, 1932, S. elongata Alluaud, 1932, S. africana (Britton, 1947), S. schoutedeni Alluaud, 1930, S. putzeysi (Oberthür, 1883), S. miranda (Andrewes, 1920), and S. parallela Baehr, 1998. The following nine new species are described: S. unifoveata sp. nov., S. faillei sp. nov., S. lukulua sp. nov., S. matsumotoi sp. nov., S. utetea sp. nov., S. robusta sp. nov., S. procera sp. nov., S. tuberculata sp. nov., and S. baroensis sp. nov. Photographs of the habitus and male and female genitals are provided for all species. An identification key to the species is given. Morphological characteristics of the genus are described and illustrated. Zoogeography of the group is discussed and distribution records from Africa are displayed on a map. Western Hemisphere Zuphiini: descriptions of Coarazuphium whiteheadi, new species, and Zuphioides, new genus, and classification of the genera (Coleoptera, Carabidae).

Project description:Based on small samples (exemplars) analyzed with morphological methods, including detailed descriptions and illustrations, this study treats primarily the Zuphium genus-group in the Western Hemisphere, which comprises two precinctive genera: Coarazuphium Gnaspini, Vanin & Godoy, 1998 (type species Parazuphium tessai Godoy & Vanin, 1990) and Zuphioides gen. n. (type species Zuphium mexicanum Chaudoir, 1863). The genus Coarazuphium includes six troglobitic species from Brazilian caves, and one probably hypogaeic (troglophilic) species from the mountains of Oaxaca, in Mexico (Coarazuphium whiteheadi, sp. n., type locality, ridge top, in western Oaxaca, Mexico, at 2164 m, 35 km north of San Pedro Juchatengo, 16.462N, 97.010W). The epigaeic genus Zuphioides includes 23 species, with its geographical range extended from Neotropical temperate Argentina in southern South America, northward through the tropics to north temperate southeastern Canada, in the Nearctic Region. Keys are provided to the species of Coarazuphium and to thegenera of Western Hemisphere Zuphiini.

Revision of the Chinese species of subgenus Koreonialoe (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Pterostichus), with descriptions of two new species.

Project description:The Chinese species of subgenus Koreonialoe Park & Kwon, 1996 of the genus Pterostichus are revised, including four species from the eastern part of Jilin and Liaoning provinces. Two new species are described: Pterostichus (Koreonialoe) micropoidessp. nov. (type locality: Jilin, Changbai county), and Pterostichus (Koreonialoe) tetralobatussp. nov. (type locality: Liaoning, Xiuyan county). Pterostichus (Koreonialoe) bellatrix (Tschitschérine) is newly recorded from China (Jilin). The subgenus Koreonialoe is classified into two groups on account of their differences on the endophallus, and all Chinese species accord with the microps group defined herein. A key to all six species in the microps group is provided.

Project description:The subgenus Chinapterus Berlov, 1998 of the genus Pterostichus is briefly reviewed and a new synonym is proposed: Pterostichus singularis Tschitschérine, 1889 = Pterostichus balthasari Jedlička, 1937 syn. nov. Two new species are described: Pterostichus (Chinapterus) lianhuaensissp. nov. and Pterostichus (Chinapterus) liupanensissp. nov. Pterostichus przewalskyi Tschitschérine, 1888 is moved from subgenus Sinoreophilus Sciaky, 1996 to Chinapterus, and lectotypes are designated for P. balthasari and P. przewalskyi. A key to four species of the subgenus Chinapterus is provided.

Project description:Chinese members of the genus Aspidimerus Mulsant, 1850 are reviewed. Ten species are recognized, including two new species: A. zhenkangicus Huo & Ren, sp. n. and A. menglensis Huo & Ren, sp. n. A. kabakovi Hoàng is recorded from China for the first time. A. blandus (Mader, 1954) is recognized as synonymous with A. ruficrus Gorham, 1895 (syn. n.). Aspidimerus rectangulatus Kuznetsov & Pang, 1991 and A. serratus Kuznetsov & Pang, 1991 are transferred to the genus Pseudaspidimerus Kapur, 1948 (comb. n.). All species from China are described and illustrated. Distribution maps of the Chinese species, a key and a catalogue of all known Aspidimerus are provided.
