The coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP<sup>+</sup>) and its reduced form (NADPH) regulate reductive metabolism in a subcellularly compartmentalized manner. Mitochondrial NADP(H) production depends on the phosphorylation of NAD(H) by NAD kinase 2 (NADK2).
