Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Dracocephalum heterophyllum (Lamiaceae).

ABSTRACT: Dracocephalum heterophyllum is a medicinal plant. The complete chloroplast genome sequence is 150,860 bp in length, which contains 133 complete genes, among them, 88 are protein-coding genes (88 PCGs), 8 are ribosomal RNA genes (8 rRNAs), and 37 are tRNA genes (37 tRNAs). The overall GC content of chloroplast DNA is 37.6%, the respective values of the LSC, SSC, and IR regions are 36.0%, 31.6%, and 43.0%. Phylogenetic tree shows that D. heterophyllum is a sister to D. moldavica and D. palmatum.

Project description:Dracocephalum rupestre (tribe Mentheae; Lamiaceae) is a perennial herb from Korea and China with high ornamental and medicinal value. Here, we report its complete chloroplast genome to provide insight into the phylogenetic relationships of Dracocephalum. The genome is 151,230 bp long, with two inverted repeat regions (25,643 bp each) that separate a large single-copy region (82,536 bp) and a small single-copy region (17,408 bp). It contains 133 genes that encode 88 proteins, eight rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs. The maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis strongly supported Dracocephalum monophyly, showing that the genus forms a sister group with the subtribe Menthinae in the tribe Mentheae.

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Salvia leucantha (Lamiaceae).

Project description:Salvia leucantha (Lamiaceae) is an important horticultural plant with great ornamental and economic value. Here, we report the complete chloroplast genome of this species. The chloroplast genome was determined to be 151021 bp and the GC contents was 38.0%. The sequence includes a large single copy (LSC) region of 82,262 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 17,537 bp, and two separated inverted regions of 25,611 bp each. It contains 130 unique genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Based on the chloroplast genomes data of 26 species in Salvia, our result indicated that S. leucantha, S. tiliifolia, S. hispanica, and S. splendens formed one clade with Bootstrap = 100%. The four species belong to Salvia subgenus Calosphace, and S. leucantha was closely related to Salvia tiliifolia and Salvia hispanica. This result will facilitate population, genetic diversity and phylogenetic studies of S. leucantha.

The genome totally encoded 130 genes, containing 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicates that C. bungei belongs to the Lamiaceae family.

The first complete chloroplast genome of Salvia honania was sequenced and assembled in this study. The genome is 151,559 bp in length and contains 132 encoded genes in total, including 87 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. The phylogenomic analysis showed that Salvia honania was closely related to Salvia meiliensis according the current sampling extent.

Complete Chloroplast Genome Sequencing and Phylogenetic Analysis of Two Dracocephalum Plants.

Project description:Dracocephalum tanguticum and Dracocephalum moldavica are important herbs from Lamiaceae and have great medicinal value. We used the Illumina sequencing technology to sequence the complete chloroplast genome of D. tanguticum and D. moldavica and then conducted de novo assembly. The two chloroplast genomes have a typical quadripartite structure, with the gene's lengths of 82,221 bp and 81,450 bp, large single-copy region's (LSC) lengths of 82,221 bp and 81,450 bp, and small single-copy region's (SSC) lengths of 17,363 bp and 17,066 bp, inverted repeat region's (IR) lengths of 51,370 bp and 51,352 bp, respectively. The GC content of the two chloroplast genomes was 37.80% and 37.83%, respectively. The chloroplast genomes of the two plants encode 133 and 132 genes, respectively, among which there are 88 and 87 protein-coding genes, respectively, as well as 37 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. Among them, the rps2 gene is unique to D. tanguticum, which is not found in D. moldavica. Through SSR analysis, we also found 6 mutation hotspot regions, which can be used as molecular markers for taxonomic studies. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Dracocephalum was more closely related to Mentha.

Characterization of complete chloroplast genome of endemic species of Korea Peninsular, Salvia chanryoenica (Lamiaceae).

Project description:Salvia chanryoenica is an endemic species, which locates on the ridges of mountains in South Korea. In this study, we determined the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of S. chanryoenica; cp genome of S. chanryoenica is 151,689 bp in length and consists of a large (82,903 bp) and small (17,634 bp) single-copy regions, separated by a pair of identical inverted repeats (25,576 bp). This genome contains unique 79 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA, and 4 rRNA. The gene order and organization of the S. chanryoenica are consistent with those of other Lamiaceae cp genomes. The overall GC content of the whole genome was 37.9%. Phylogenetic tree constructed based on 71 protein-coding genes demonstrated a sister relationship within genus Salvia.

Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the complete chloroplast genome of Arisaema heterophyllum Blume.

Project description:Arisaema heterophyllum Blume is a perennial medicinal herb widely distributed in China, Korea and Japan. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome sequence of A. heterophyllum was assembled and characterized based on high-throughput sequencing data. The whole chloroplast genome is 170,610 bp in length and contains 95,485 bp large single-copy (LSC) and 22,605 bp small single-copy (SSC) regions separated by a pair of 26,260 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. It contained a total of 129 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes, with an overall GC content of 34.5%. A phylogenetic tree reconstructed by 30 chloroplast genomes reveals that A. heterophyllum is mostly related to the same genus A. ringens, A. franchetianum and A. erubescens. The complete chloroplast genome of A. heterophyllum was the firstly reported and deposited at GenBank under accession number MZ424448.

The complete chloroplast genome of Vitex trifolia L. (Lamiaceae).

Project description:The three-leaved chaste tree (Vitex trifolia) is a medicinal and ornamental plant widely distributed from East Africa to the Pacific but has no complete chloroplast genome sequence. We assembled and characterized the V. trifolia accession from the germplasm collection of the Institute of Crop Science, University of the Philippines Los Baños. The complete plastome sequence is 154,444-bp long with 131 coding genes comprising 87 mRNA genes, 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis of the assembled genome, together with nine other Lamiaceae species, identified V. rotundifolia as its closest relative with available complete cpDNA sequence. The clustering also supports the genotypic similarity of the species belonging to trifolia group of the genus Vitex.
