Injection of effector proteins to block host innate immune signaling is a common strategy used by many pathogenic organisms to establish an infection. For example, pathogenic <i>Yersinia</i> species inject the acetyltransferase YopJ into target cells to inhibit NF-κB and MAPK signaling.
