The patterns of left ventricular alteration by adipose tissue distribution: implication for heart failure prevention.

Aims

The current study aimed to evaluate the associations between general and abdominal obesity with left ventricular (LV) structure and function and whether these associations differed by sex.

Methods and results

This is a community-based cross-sectional study, and 971 hypertensive individuals without overt cardiovascular disease were included. General obesity was defined as body mass index (BMI) ≥ 28 kg/m² , and abdominal obesity was defined as waist circumference (WC) ≥ 90 cm for men and ≥85 cm for women. The associations between general and abdominal obesity with LV structure and function were examined using linear regression analysis, and the interaction by sex was performed.
