Volume accommodation occurs via a novel mechanism involving interstitial cells in detrusor muscles. The interstitial cells in the bladder are PDGFRα<sup>+</sup>, and they restrain the excitability of smooth muscle at low levels and prevents the development of transient contractions (TCs).
