Cactus pear (<i>Opuntia ficus-indica</i>) is a crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species that serves as a food, feed, and bioenergy crop. <i>O. ficus-indica</i> is an attractive alternative biofuel feedstock due to its low water demand and high biomass productivity.
