Thiopurines, mercaptopurine, and azathioprine are used as immunosuppressants in the treatments of inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and organ transplantation and as chemotherapeutic drugs for the treatment of acute leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia.
