Draft Genome Sequence of the Free-Living, Iridescent Bacterium Tenacibaculum mesophilum Strain ECR.

ABSTRACT: Here, we report the genome sequence of Tenacibaculum mesophilum strain ECR, which was isolated from the river/ocean interface at Trunk River in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The isolation and sequencing were performed as part of the 2016 and 2018 Microbial Diversity courses at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

Bisucaberin B, a linear hydroxamate class siderophore from the marine bacterium Tenacibaculum mesophilum.

Project description:A siderophore, named bisucaberin B, was isolated from Tenacibaculum mesophilum bacteria separated from a marine sponge collected in the Republic of Palau. Using spectroscopic and chemical methods, the structure of bisucaberin B (1) was clearly determined to be a linear dimeric hydroxamate class siderophore. Although compound 1 is an open form of the known macrocyclic dimer bisucaberin (2), and was previously described as a bacterial degradation product of desferrioxamine B (4), the present report is the first description of the de novo biosynthesis of 1. To the best of our knowledge, compound 1 is the first chemically characterized siderophore isolated from a bacterium belonging to the phylum Bacteroidetes.

Genome Sequence of the Psychrophilic Bacterium Tenacibaculum ovolyticum Strain da5A-8 Isolated from Deep Seawater.

Project description:Some bacterial species of the genus Tenacibaculum, including Tenacibaculum ovolyticum, have been known as fish pathogens in the sea. So far, the only published genome sequence for this genus is for Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi, which could also be a fish pathogen. Strain da5A-8, showing 100% identity to the 16S rRNA gene sequence of T. ovolyticum DSM 18103(T), was isolated from seawater at a depth of 344 m in Kochi, Japan, and grew optimally at 10 to 20°C. The genome sequence of strain da5A-8 revealed the possible virulence genes commonly observed in the genus Tenacibaculum.

Cloning of the Bisucaberin B Biosynthetic Gene Cluster from the Marine Bacterium Tenacibaculum mesophilum, and Heterologous Production of Bisucaberin B.

Project description:The biosynthetic gene cluster for bisucaberin B (1, bsb gene cluster), an N-hydroxy-N-succinyl diamine (HSD)-based siderophore, was cloned from the marine bacterium Tenacibaculum mesophilum, originated from a marine sponge. The bsb gene cluster consists of six open reading frames (ORFs), in contrast to the four ORFs typically seen in biosynthetic gene clusters of the related molecules. Heterologous expression of the key enzyme, BsbD2, which is responsible for the final biosynthetic step of 1 resulted in production of bisucaberin B (1), but not bisucaberin (2) a macrocyclic counterpart of 1. To date, numbers of related enzymes producing macrocyclic analogues have been reported, but this work represents the first example of the HSD-based siderophore biosynthetic enzyme which exclusively produces a linear molecule rather than macrocyclic counterparts.

Project description:Here, we present the draft genome sequence of Tenacibaculum soleae strain UCD-KL19. The assembly contains 3,012,701 bp in 46 contigs. This strain was isolated from a seagrass leaf (Zostera marina) collected from Bodega Bay, CA, as a part of an undergraduate student research project on isolating bacteria from seagrass.

Draft Genome Sequence of the Marine Bacterium Alteromonas sp. Strain KS69.

Project description:Alteromonas spp. are Gram-negative, aerobic, marine bacteria. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Alteromonas sp. strain KS69, isolated from Narragansett Bay deep water samples. Unpublished preliminary data suggest that KS69 reduces expression of the 3-oxo-C12-HSL-dependent, virulence-associated gene lasB of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, suggesting that it produces a quorum sensing inhibitor.

Draft genome sequence of Paenibacillus strain LK1, a phytohormone producing bacterium.

Project description:A high-quality draft genome sequence of a multi-antibiotic resistant strain, Paenibacillus strain LK1 isolated from the rhizosphere of Auricularia auricular is described. Strain LK1 produced several types of phytohormones, which included Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and Zeatin. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene of strain LK1 showed a close relationship to P. taichungensis and P. pabuli (99% gene sequence similarity). The genome size of strain LK1 was estimated to be 7.16 Mb that consisted of 82 contigs contained in 49 scaffolds. The G + C content of the genome was 45.63% and it encoded 6499 genes, 115 pseudo genes, 8 rRNAs, 33 tRNAs, and 4 ncRNAs, based on the Prokaryotic Genome Annotation Pipeline (PGAP). Further analysis of the genome of strain LK1 identified 16 genes encoding monooxygenase and six genes encoding cytochrome P450, which may be potentially involved in zeatin biosynthesis. The draft whole genome sequence and annotation of strain LK1 has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession number (PEII00000000).
