A Reusable Efficient Green Catalyst of 2D Cu-MOF for the Click and Knoevenagel Reaction.

ABSTRACT: [Cu(CPA)(BDC)]n (CPA = 4-(Chloro-phenyl)-pyridin-4-ylmethylene-amine; BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-Ray diffraction measurement. The structural studies establish the copper (II) containing 2D sheet with (4,4) square grid structure. The square grid lengths are 10.775 and 10.769 Å. Thermal stability is assessed by TGA, and subsequent PXRD data establish the crystallinity. The surface morphology is evaluated by FE-SEM. The N2 adsorption-desorption analysis demonstrates the mesoporous feature (∼6.95 nm) of the Cu-MOF. This porous grid serves as heterogeneous green catalyst with superficial recyclability and thermal stability and facilitates organic transformations efficiently such as, Click and Knoevenagel reactions in the aqueous methanolic medium.

Building a Green, Robust, and Efficient Bi-MOF Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Strecker Reaction of Ketones.

Project description:In this work, we present the new [Bi14(μ3-O)9(μ4-O)2(μ3-OH)5(3,5-DSB)5(H2O)3]·7H2O, BiPF-4 (bismuth polymeric framework─4) MOF, its microwave hydrothermal synthesis, as well as its behavior as a heterogeneous catalyst in the multicomponent organic Strecker reaction. The BiPF-4 material shows a three-dimensional (3D) framework formed by peculiar inorganic oxo-hydroxo-bismutate layers connected among them through the 3,5-dsb (3,5-disulfobenzoic acid) linker. These two-dimensional (2D) layers, built by junctions of Bi7 polyhedra SBU, provide the material of many Lewis acid catalytic sites because of the mixing in the metal coordination number. BiPF-4 is a highly robust, green, and stable material that demonstrates an excellent heterogeneous catalytic activity in the multicomponent Strecker reaction of ketones carried out in one-pot synthesis, bringing a reliable platform of novel green materials based on nontoxic and abundant metal sources such as bismuth.

MOF-Derived Cu@N-C Catalyst for 1,3-Dipolar Cycloaddition Reaction.

Project description:Cu(im)2-derived Cu@N-C composites were used for the first time as efficient heterogeneous catalysts for one-pot 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of terminal alkynes, aryl halides, and sodium azide to preparation of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles with broad substrate scope and high yields. The catalyst can be easily reused without the changes of structure and morphology, and the heterogeneity nature was confirmed from the catalyst recyclability and metal leaching test.

Amide Functionalized Mesoporous MOF LOCOM-1 as a Stable Highly Active Basic Catalyst for Knoevenagel Condensation Reaction.

Project description:Acyl-amide is extensively used as functional group and is a superior contender for the design of MOFs with the guest accessible functional organic sites. A novel acyl-amide-containing tetracarboxylate ligand, bis(3,5-dicarboxy-pheny1)terephthalamide, has been successfully synthesized. The H4L linker has some fascinating attributes as follows: (i) four carboxylate moieties as the coordination sites confirm affluent coordination approaches to figure a diversity of structure; (ii) two acyl-amide groups as the guest interaction sites can engender guest molecules integrated into the MOF networks through H-bonding interfaces and have a possibility to act as functional organic sites for the condensation reaction. A mesoporous MOF ([Cu2(L)(H2O)3]·4DMF·6H2O) has been prepared in order to produce the amide FOS within the MOF, which will work as guest accessible sites. The prepared MOF was characterized by CHN analysis, PXRD, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM analysis. The MOF showed superior catalytic activity for Knoevenagel condensation. The catalytic system endures a broad variety of the functional groups and presents high to modest yields of aldehydes containing electron withdrawing groups (4-chloro, 4-fluoro, 4-nitro), offering a yield > 98 in less reaction time as compared to aldehydes with electron donationg groups (4-methyl). The amide decorated MOF (LOCOM-1-) as a heterogeneous catalyst can be simply recovered by centrifugation and recycled again without a flagrant loss of its catalytic efficiency.

Uniform Cu/chitosan beads as a green and reusable catalyst for facile synthesis of imines <i>via</i> oxidative coupling reaction.

Project description:A nonprecious metal and biopolymer-based catalyst, Cu/chitosan beads, has been successfully prepared by using a software-controlled flow system. Uniform, spherical Cu/chitosan beads can be obtained with diameters in millimeter-scale and narrow size distribution (0.78 ± 0.04 mm). The size and morphology of the Cu/chitosan beads are reproducible due to high precision of the flow rate. In addition, the application of the Cu/chitosan beads as a green and reusable catalyst has been demonstrated using a convenient and efficient protocol for the direct synthesis of imines via the oxidative self- and cross-coupling of amines (24 examples) with moderate to excellent yields. Importantly, the beads are stable and could be reused more than ten times without loss of the catalytic performance. Furthermore, because of the bead morphology, the Cu/chitosan catalyst has greatly simplified recycling and workup procedures.

Cu(ii)-thiophene-2,5-bis(amino-alcohol) mediated asymmetric Aldol reaction and Domino Knoevenagel Michael cyclization: a new highly efficient Lewis acid catalyst.

Project description:The highly efficient Lewis acid-catalytic system Cu(ii)-thiophene-2,5-bis(amino-alcohol) has been developed for enantioselective Aldol reaction of isatin derivatives with ketones. The new catalytic system also proved to be highly enantioselective for the one pot three-component Domino Knoevenagel Michael cyclization reaction of substituted isatin with malononitrile and ethylacetoacetate. The chiral ligand (2S,2'S)-2,2'-((thiophene-2,5-diylbis(methylene))bis(azanediyl))bis(3-phenylpropan-1-ol) (L1) in combination with Cu(OAc)2·H2O employed as a new Lewis acid catalyst, furnished 3-substituted-3-hydroxyindolin-2-ones derivatives (3a-s) in good to excellent yields (81-99%) with high enantioselectivities (up to 96% ee) and spiro[4H-pyran-3,3-oxindole] derivatives (6a-l) in excellent yields (89-99%) with high ee (up to 95%). These aldol products and spiro-oxindoles constitute a core structural motif in a large number of pharmaceutically active molecules and natural products.

Bifunctional Mesoporous Carbon Nitride: Highly Efficient Enzyme-like Catalyst for One-pot Deacetalization-Knoevenagel Reaction.

Project description:Recently, mesoporous carbon nitride (MCN) has aroused extensive interest for its potential applications in organocatalysis, photo- and electrochemistry and CO2 capture. However, further surface functionalization of MCN for advanced nanomaterials and catalysis still remains very challenging. Here we show that acidic carboxyl groups can be smoothly introduced onto the surface of well-ordered MCN without annihilation between the introduced acid groups and MCN's inherent basic groups through a facile UV light oxidation method. The functionalization generates a novel bifunctional nanocatalyst which offers an enzyme-like catalytic performance in the one-pot deacetalization-Knoevenagel reaction of benzaldehyde dimethylacetal and malononitrile with 100% conversion and more than 99% selectivity due to the cooperative catalysis between the acid and base groups separated on the surface of the catalyst. The results provide a general method to create multifunctional nanomaterials and open new opportunities for the development of high efficient catalyst for green organic synthesis.

Amine-Functionalized Sugarcane Bagasse: A Renewable Catalyst for Efficient Continuous Flow Knoevenagel Condensation Reaction at Room Temperature.

Project description:A biomass-based catalyst with amine groups (-NH₂), viz., amine-functionalized sugarcane bagasse (SCB-NH₂), was prepared through the amination of sugarcane bagasse (SCB) in a two-step process. The physicochemical properties of the catalyst were characterized through FT-IR, elemental analysis, XRD, TG, and SEM-EDX techniques, which confirmed the -NH₂ group was grafted onto SCB successfully. The catalytic performance of SCB-NH₂ in Knoevenagel condensation reaction was tested in the batch and continuous flow reactions. Significantly, it was found that the catalytic performance of SCB-NH₂ is better in flow system than that in batch system. Moreover, the SCB-NH₂ presented an excellent catalytic activity and stability at the high flow rate. When the flow rate is at the 1.5 mL/min, no obvious deactivation was observed and the product yield and selectivity are more than 97% and 99% after 80 h of continuous reaction time, respectively. After the recovery of solvent from the resulting solution, a white solid was obtained as a target product. As a result, the SCB-NH₂ is a promising catalyst for the synthesis of fine chemicals by Knoevenagel condensation reaction in large scale, and the modification of the renewable SCB with -NH₂ group is a potential avenue for the preparation of amine-functionalized catalytic materials in industry.

Stabilization of Palladium-Nanoparticle-Decorated Postsynthesis-Modified Zr-UiO-66 MOF as a Reusable Heterogeneous Catalyst in C-C Coupling Reaction.

Project description:Here we prepared a highly efficient and reusable catalyst by a step-by-step postsynthesis modification of UiO-66-NH2 metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with nitrogen-rich organic ligands and used it as support for the preparation of UiO-66-NH2@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/PdNPs. The catalytic performance's results of UiO-66-NH2@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/PdNPs, UiO-66-NH2/PdNPs, and UiO-66-NH2@cyanuric chloride/PdNPs indicate high efficiency of the modulation of the microenvironment of the palladium NPs. The addition of N-rich organic ligands through postsynthesis modification caused a unique structure of the final composite in favor of the progress of the C-C coupling reaction. Various techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, and elemental mapping, were used to characterize UiO-66-NH2@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/PdNPs, indicating its successful preparation. Three C-C coupling reactions, including the Suzuki, Heck, and Sonogashira coupling reactions, were promoted using the produced catalyst. As a result of the postsynthesis modification (PSM), the proposed catalyst displays improved catalytic performance. In addition, the suggested catalyst was highly recyclable up to ten times without leaching of PdNPs.

A recyclable and reusable supported Cu(I) catalyzed azide-alkyne click polymerization.

Project description:The azide-alkyne click polymerization (AACP) has emerged as a powerful tool for the synthesis of functional polytriazoles. While, for the Cu(I)-catalyzed AACP, the removal of the catalytic Cu(I) species from the resulting polytriazoles is difficult, and the research on the recyclability and reusability of the catalyst remains intact. Herein, we reported the first example of using recyclable and reusable supported Cu(I) catalyst of CuI@A-21 for the AACP. CuI@A-21 could not only efficiently catalyze the AACP but also be reused for at least 4 cycles. Moreover, pronounced reduction of copper residues in the products was achieved. Apart from being a green and cost-effective polymer synthesis strategy, this method will also broaden the application of AACP in material and biological sciences and provide guidelines for other polymerizations with metal catalysts.
