Thermal-comfort evaluation of and plan for public space of Maling Village, Henan, China.

ABSTRACT: The thermal environment of village public space affects the comfort of people ' s outdoor activities, and then affects the willingness of residents to outdoor activities, which has an important impact on the villagers' quality of life. Previously published studies of thermal comfort mostly focused on the evaluation of thermal comfort index, few studies on the application of thermal comfort planning. The study was carried out in Maling Village, Changdai Town, Mengjin County, Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. Square, street, green space were chosen as three typical public spaces where thermal comfort indexes were measured by questionnaire survey and field measurement during summer. Subsequently, the village's microclimate environment was simulated with ArcGIS 10.6 and ENVI-met. The results indicate that during the summer, the influences of temperature, solar radiation, wind speed, and relative humidity on the subjective comfort conditions of the outdoor environment gradually decreased. The spatial form of village has an important influence on thermal comfort. Finally, based on the results, this study put forward the thermal comfort process and planning scheme of the village outdoor space.

Project description:Rapid urbanization drives social development, but at the same time brings sustainable development Rapid urbanization drives social development, but at the same time brings sustainable development advantages of expanding underground space and relieving urban traffic congestion. High quality TOD complexes with natural elements in the intermediary space have been considered as one of the important means to address sustainable urban development. Nevertheless, intermediary spaces in TOD complexes face various challenges, such as significant contradictory factors in their physical environment spaces. This study classifies the underground open intermediary space into four types according to the characteristics of TOD complexes. And for these four types'Cthe physical environment-generated by various influencing factors of planar geometric, three-dimensional geometric, and detailed construction elements-is simulated using a numerical simulation method based on a static Taguchi experiment. The results demonstrate that space shape is a primary influencing factor for luminous and thermal environments; the window-atrium ratio (W/A ratio) and hole-atrium ratio (H/A ratio) comprise contradictory factors between the luminous and thermal environments of these spaces; profile inclination angle and sunken plaza height are primary impact factors for the acoustic environment; and skylight type has minimal influence on the physical environment. On average, their luminous and acoustic environment comfort can be improved by 200%; whereas, their thermal environment comfort can be improved by 21% and the potential for optimizing it in their shallow space (underground space depth ≤ 10 m) is relatively low. Subsequently, the necessity of comfort optimization as the passive optimization design of underground open intermediary spaces' physical environment in TOD complexes in the future is discussed. Finally, the feasible path and prospect of how to improve the livability and comfort of the spatial physical environment of TOD complexes are discussed and prospected.

Project description:BackgroundTouch comfort refers to the level of comfort nurses feel internally when touching patients. Good touch comfort indicates that nurses feel very comfortable during such interactions. With the steady advancement of the "Healthy China" initiative, there is an increasing demand for humanistic care. Good touch comfort is a critical prerequisite for nurses to complete humanistic care measures efficiently. However, there is currently a lack of effective localized measurement tools to evaluate the touch comfort for Chinese nurses. This study aimed to develop a nurses' touch comfort evaluation scale suitable for Chinese nursing culture and to test its psychometric properties.MethodsThe nurses' touch comfort evaluation scale was developed in three stages. In stage 1, a literature review and team discussions were used to create the initial item pool, followed by two rounds of expert consultations and a pre-survey to refine the items and form the initial scale. In Stage 2, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 231 nurses. Item analysis and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were employed to optimize the items and explore the scale's structure, resulting in a predictive scale. In Stage 3, the performance of the scale was validated with a sample of 355 nurses, leading to the final version of the scale. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and content validity were used to evaluate the scale's validity, while Cronbach's alpha coefficient, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability were applied to assess its reliability.ResultsThe final scale comprises 4 dimensions (treatment task, physiological comfort, individualized assistance, and emotional support) with 35 items, accounting for 76.661% of the cumulative variance. The scale's Cronbach's alpha coefficient, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability were 0.981, 0.927, and 0.886, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated: standardized chi-square statistics(χ2/df) = 3.432, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.083, comparative fit index(CFI) = 0.911, incremental fit index(IFI) = 0.911, Tacker-Lewis index(TLI) = 0.902, parsimonious comparative fit index (PCFI) = 0.830, parsimony normed fit index(PNFI) = 0.801, combined reliability (CR) values ranged from 0.933 to 0.972, average variance extracted (AVE) values ranged from 0.671 to 0.780, and heterotrait-monotrait ratio (HTMT) values ranged from 0.780 to 0.886, indicating good construct validity. Both scale-level and item-level content validity were 1.ConclusionThe nurses' touch comfort evaluation scale has acceptable reliability and validity, making it an effective tool for assessing the touch comfort of nurses in China.

Project description:ObjectiveThe Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan has been in effect for approximately 4 years, with its primary goals being to improve public health and prevent diseases. However, there is limited information available on the community-level public satisfaction with the outcomes of its implementation. Therefore, we intend to conduct an assessment based in southwest China.DesignA population-based, cross-sectional survey was performed between 1 June 2023 and 31 July 2023.SettingCommunity members of all 14 prefecture-level cities within Guangxi, China, during June 2023 to July 2023.ParticipantsA total of 62 4016 participants were included for analysis based on exclusion criteria, with 44.4% aged 18-35 and a male to female ratio of 3:2.Primary outcome measure'Public satisfaction with the Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan implementation' was measured by the combination of 'Willingness to join health promotion' and 'Satisfaction to overall medical implementation measures and services' using a structural equation model with a multiple-indicator, multiple-cause approach in R software.ResultsThe study proposed a comprehensive five-factor model to evaluate the public satisfaction with Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan implementation. With the mediator of 'awareness of Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan', health education/promotion demonstrated important effect on overall public satisfaction with Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan implementation. Mental health had small but positive effect on the outcomes. High socio-characteristic variables showed negative effects on all latent variables except for the mental health status. All of the effects were statistically significant.ConclusionsUnderstanding the impact of background variables on public satisfaction with Healthy China (Guangxi) Action Plan implementation was crucial, along with considering the sociodemographic traits of participants. This knowledge helped policymakers to develop tailored interventions and strategies.

Project description:ImportanceLung cancer screening has been widely implemented in Europe and the US. However, there is little evidence on participation and diagnostic yields in population-based lung cancer screening in China.ObjectiveTo assess the participation rate and detection rate of lung cancer in a population-based screening program and the factors associated with participation.Design, setting, and participantsThis cross-sectional study used data from the Cancer Screening Program in Urban China from October 2013 to October 2019, with follow-up until March 10, 2020. The program is conducted at centers in 8 cities in Henan Province, China. Eligible participants were aged 40 to 74 and were evaluated for a high risk for lung cancer using an established risk score system.Main outcomes and measuresOverall and group-specific participation rates by common factors, such as age, sex, and educational level, were calculated. Differences in participation rates between those groups were compared. The diagnostic yield of both screening and nonscreening groups was calculated.ResultsThe study recruited 282 377 eligible participants and included 55 428 with high risk for lung cancer; the mean (SD) age was 55.3 (8.1) years, and 34 966 participants (63.1%) were men. A total of 22 260 participants underwent LDCT (participation rate, 40.16%; 95% CI, 39.82%-40.50%). The multivariable logistic regression model showed that female sex (odds ratio [OR], 1.64; 95% CI, 1.52-1.78), former smoking (OR, 1.26; 95% CI, 1.13-1.41), lack of physical activity (OR, 1.19; 95% CI, 1.14-1.24), family history of lung cancer (OR, 1.73; 95% CI, 1.66-1.79), and 7 other factors were associated with increased participation of LDCT screening. Overall, at 6-year follow-up, 78 participants in the screening group (0.35%; 95% CI, 0.29%-0.42%) and 125 in the nonscreening group (0.38%; 95% CI, 0.33%-0.44%) had lung cancer detected, which resulted in an odds ratio of 0.93 (95% CI, 0.70-1.23; P = .61).Conclusions and relevanceThe low participations rate in the program studied suggests that an improved strategy is needed. These findings may provide useful information for designing effective population-based lung cancer screening strategies in the future.
