Legumes of the Fabeae tribe form nitrogen-fixing root nodules resulting from symbiotic interaction with the soil bacteria <i>Rhizobium leguminosarum</i> symbiovar <i>viciae</i> (<i>Rlv</i>). These bacteria are all potential symbionts of the Fabeae hosts but display variable partner choice when co-inoculated in mixture.
