Long-Time Prediction of Arrhythmic Cardiac Action Potentials Using Recurrent Neural Networks and Reservoir Computing.

ABSTRACT: The electrical signals triggering the heart's contraction are governed by non-linear processes that can produce complex irregular activity, especially during or preceding the onset of cardiac arrhythmias. Forecasts of cardiac voltage time series in such conditions could allow new opportunities for intervention and control but would require efficient computation of highly accurate predictions. Although machine-learning (ML) approaches hold promise for delivering such results, non-linear time-series forecasting poses significant challenges. In this manuscript, we study the performance of two recurrent neural network (RNN) approaches along with echo state networks (ESNs) from the reservoir computing (RC) paradigm in predicting cardiac voltage data in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and robustness. We show that these ML time-series prediction methods can forecast synthetic and experimental cardiac action potentials for at least 15-20 beats with a high degree of accuracy, with ESNs typically two orders of magnitude faster than RNN approaches for the same network size.

Project description:Music performance action generation can be applied in multiple real-world scenarios as a research hotspot in computer vision and cross-sequence analysis. However, the current generation methods of music performance actions have consistently ignored the connection between music and performance actions, resulting in a strong sense of separation between visual and auditory content. This paper first analyzes the attention mechanism, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), and long and short-term RNN. The long and short-term RNN is suitable for sequence data with a strong temporal correlation. Based on this, the current learning method is improved. A new model that combines attention mechanisms and long and short-term RNN is proposed, which can generate performance actions based on music beat sequences. In addition, image description generative models with attention mechanisms are adopted technically. Combined with the RNN abstract structure that does not consider recursion, the abstract network structure of RNN-Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is optimized. Through music beat recognition and dance movement extraction technology, data resources are allocated and adjusted in the edge server architecture. The metric for experimental results and evaluation is the model loss function value. The superiority of the proposed model is mainly reflected in the high accuracy and low consumption rate of dance movement recognition. The experimental results show that the result of the loss function of the model is at least 0.00026, and the video effect is the best when the number of layers of the LSTM module in the model is 3, the node value is 256, and the Lookback value is 15. The new model can generate harmonious and prosperous performance action sequences based on ensuring the stability of performance action generation compared with the other three models of cross-domain sequence analysis. The new model has an excellent performance in combining music and performance actions. This paper has practical reference value for promoting the application of edge computing technology in intelligent auxiliary systems for music performance.

Project description:Nasalance is a valuable clinical biomarker for hypernasality. It is computed as the ratio of acoustic energy emitted through the nose to the total energy emitted through the mouth and nose (eNasalance). A new approach is proposed to compute nasalance using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained with Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (mfccNasalance). mfccNasalance is evaluated by examining its accuracy: 1) when the train and test data are from the same or from different dialects; 2) with test data that differs in dynamicity (e.g. rapidly produced diadochokinetic syllables versus short words); and 3) using multiple CNN configurations (i.e. kernel shape and use of 1 × 1 pointwise convolution). Dual-channel Nasometer speech data from healthy speakers from different dialects: Costa Rica, more(+) nasal, Spain and Chile, less(-) nasal, are recorded. The input to the CNN models were sequences of 39 MFCC vectors computed from 250 ms moving windows. The test data were recorded in Spain and included short words (-dynamic), sentences (+dynamic), and diadochokinetic syllables (+dynamic). The accuracy of a CNN model was defined as the Spearman correlation between the mfccNasalance for that model and the perceptual nasality scores of human experts. In the same-dialect condition, mfccNasalance was more accurate than eNasalance independently of the CNN configuration; using a 1 × 1 kernel resulted in increased accuracy for +dynamic utterances (p < .000), though not for -dynamic utterances. The kernel shape had a significant impact for -dynamic utterances (p < .000) exclusively. In the different-dialect condition, the scores were significantly less accurate than in the same-dialect condition, particularly for Costa Rica trained models. We conclude that mfccNasalance is a flexible and useful alternative to eNasalance. Future studies should explore how to optimize mfccNasalance by selecting the most adequate CNN model as a function of the dynamicity of the target speech data.
