Youth aging out of the foster care system in the US are a vulnerable population. When in foster care, youth are eligible for their state's Medicaid program, but they lose eligibility when they age out of foster care. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has the potential to address some of the health care needs of former foster youth through the Medicaid eligibility expansion to low-income adults and by extending Medicaid eligibility up to age twenty-six for former foster youth.
