Benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS) is a common form of childhood epilepsy linked to diverse cognitive abnormalities. The electroencephalogram of patients shows focal interictal epileptic spikes, particularly during non-rapid eye movement (NonREM) sleep.
