We demonstrate that because of the efficient generation of triplet excited state under UV or visible-light irradiation, <i>meso</i>-antracenyl-BODIPY donor-acceptor dyad can catalyze atom-transfer radical addition (ATRA) reactions between bromomalonate and alkenes.
