Netherton syndrome (NS) is a rare, life-threatening syndrome caused by serine protease inhibitor Kazal-type 5 gene (<i>SPINK</i> <i>5</i>) mutations, resulting in skin barrier defect, bacterial skin infections, and allergic sensitization in early childhood.
