Type II exponentiated half-logistic Topp-Leone Marshall-Olkin-G family of distributions with applications.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to generalize and study a new family of lifetime distributions in order to gain flexibility. The new generalized distribution is named as type II exponentiated half-logistic Topp-Leone-Marshall-Olkin-G (TIIEHL-TL-MO-G) family of distributions. Several mathematical properties of the new model have been derived including, moments and generating function, distribution of the order statistics and Rényi entropy. The performance of the maximum likelihood estimates is evaluated via a simulation study. Lastly, we apply the generated family to three real data to illustrate the potentiality of this new generalized family of distributions.

Project description:In this article, we present a new family of generalized distributions called the Burr III-Topp-Leone-G (BIII-TL-G). We further study in detail its structural properties including moments, probability weighted moments, distribution of order statistics, and entropy. The maximum likelihood estimation method is used to estimate the model parameters. Simulations are carried out to show the consistency and efficiency of parameter estimates and finally, real data sets are used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model.

Exponentiated power generalized Weibull power series family of distributions: Properties, estimation and applications.

Project description:In this paper, we introduce the exponentiated power generalized Weibull power series (EPGWPS) family of distributions, obtained by compounding the exponentiated power generalized Weibull and power series distributions. By construction, the new family contains a myriad of new flexible lifetime distributions having strong physical interpretations (lifetime system, biological studies…). We discuss the characteristics and properties of the EPGWPS family, including its probability density and hazard rate functions, quantiles, moments, incomplete moments, skewness and kurtosis. The main vocation of the EPGWPS family remains to be applied in a statistical setting, and data analysis in particular. In this regard, we explore the estimation of the model parameters by the maximum likelihood method, with accuracy supported by a detailed simulation study. Then, we apply it to two practical data sets, showing the applicability and competitiveness of the EPGWPS models in comparison to some other well-reputed models.

Different estimation methods of the modified Kies Topp-Leone model with applications and quantile regression.

Project description:This paper introduces the modified Kies Topp-Leone (MKTL) distribution for modeling data on the (0, 1) or [0, 1] interval. The shapes of the density and hazard rate functions manifest desirable shapes, making the MKTL distribution suitable for modeling data with different characteristics at the unit interval. Twelve different estimation methods are utilized to estimate the distribution parameters, and Monte Carlo simulation experiments are executed to assess the performance of the methods. The simulation results suggest that the maximum likelihood method is the superior method. The usefulness of the new distribution is illustrated by utilizing three data sets, and its performance is juxtaposed with that of other competing models. The findings affirm the superiority of the MKTL distribution over the other candidate models. Applying the developed quantile regression model using the new distribution disclosed that it offers a competitive fit over other existing regression models.

A New Extended-X Family of Distributions: Properties and Applications.

Project description:During the past couple of years, statistical distributions have been widely used in applied areas such as reliability engineering, medical, and financial sciences. In this context, we come across a diverse range of statistical distributions for modeling heavy tailed data sets. Well-known distributions are log-normal, log-t, various versions of Pareto, log-logistic, Weibull, gamma, exponential, Rayleigh and its variants, and generalized beta of the second kind distributions, among others. In this paper, we try to supplement the distribution theory literature by incorporating a new model, called a new extended Weibull distribution. The proposed distribution is very flexible and exhibits desirable properties. Maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are obtained, and a Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the behavior of these estimators. Finally, we provide a comparative study of the newly proposed and some other existing methods via analyzing three real data sets from different disciplines such as reliability engineering, medical, and financial sciences. It has been observed that the proposed method outclasses well-known distributions on the basis of model selection criteria.

The modified beta transmuted family of distributions with applications using the exponential distribution.

Project description:In this work, a new family of distributions, which extends the Beta transmuted family, was obtained, called the Modified Beta Transmuted Family of distribution. This derived family has the Beta Family of Distribution and the Transmuted family of distribution as subfamilies. The Modified beta transmuted frechet, modified beta transmuted exponential, modified beta transmuted gompertz and modified beta transmuted lindley were obtained as special cases. The analytical expressions were studied for some statistical properties of the derived family of distribution which includes the moments, moments generating function and order statistics. The estimates of the parameters of the family were obtained using the maximum likelihood estimation method. Using the exponential distribution as a baseline for the family distribution, the resulting distribution (modified beta transmuted exponential distribution) was studied and its properties. The modified beta transmuted exponential distribution was applied to a real life time data to assess its flexibility in which the results shows a better fit when compared to some competitive models.

Alpha-Power Exponentiated Inverse Rayleigh distribution and its applications to real and simulated data.

Project description:The main goal of the current paper is to contribute to the existing literature of probability distributions. In this paper, a new probability distribution is generated by using the Alpha Power Family of distributions with the aim to model the data with non-monotonic failure rates and provides a better fit. The proposed distribution is called Alpha Power Exponentiated Inverse Rayleigh or in short APEIR distribution. Various statistical properties have been investigated including they are the order statistics, moments, residual life function, mean waiting time, quantiles, entropy, and stress-strength parameter. To estimate the parameters of the proposed distribution, the maximum likelihood method is employed. It has been proved theoretically that the proposed distribution provides a better fit to the data with monotonic as well as non-monotonic hazard rate shapes. Moreover, two real data sets are used to evaluate the significance and flexibility of the proposed distribution as compared to other probability distributions.

Continuous outcome logistic regression for analyzing body mass index distributions.

Project description:Body mass indices (BMIs) are applied to monitor weight status and associated health risks in populations. Binary or multinomial logistic regression models are commonly applied in this context, but are only applicable to BMI values categorized within a small set of defined ad hoc BMI categories. This approach precludes comparisons with studies and models based on different categories. In addition, ad hoc categorization of BMI values prevents the estimation and analysis of the underlying continuous BMI distribution and leads to information loss. As an alternative to multinomial regression following ad hoc categorization, we propose a continuous outcome logistic regression model for the estimation of a continuous BMI distribution. Parameters of interest, such as odds ratios for specific categories, can be extracted from this model post hoc in a general way. A continuous BMI logistic regression that describes BMI distributions avoids the necessity of ad hoc and post hoc category choice and simplifies between-study comparisons and pooling of studies for joint analyses. The method was evaluated empirically using data from the Swiss Health Survey.

Progressive censoring schemes for marshall-olkin pareto distribution with applications: Estimation and prediction.

Project description:In this paper two prediction methods are used to predict the non-observed (censored) units under progressive Type-II censored samples. The lifetimes of the units follow Marshall-Olkin Pareto distribution. We observe the posterior predictive density of the non-observed units and construct predictive intervals as well. Furthermore, we provide inference on the unknown parameters of the Marshall-Olkin model, so we observe point and interval estimation by using maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation methods. Bayes estimation methods are obtained under quadratic loss function. EM algorithm is used to obtain numerical values of the Maximum likelihood method and Gibbs and the Monte Carlo Markov chain techniques are utilized for Bayesian calculations. A simulation study is performed to evaluate the performance of the estimators with respect to the mean square errors and the biases. Finally, we find the best prediction method by implementing a real data example under progressive Type-II censoring schemes.

Amphipod family distributions around Iceland.

Project description:Amphipod crustaceans were collected at all 55 stations sampled with an epibenthic sledge during two IceAGE expeditions (Icelandic marine Animals: Genetics and Ecology) in 2011 and 2013. In total, 34 amphipod families and three superfamilies were recorded in the samples. Distribution maps are presented for each taxon along with a summary of the regional taxonomy for the group. Statistical analyses based on presence/absence data revealed a pattern of family distributions that correlated with sampling depth. Clustering according to the geographic location of the stations (northernmost North Atlantic Sea and Arctic Ocean) can also be observed. IceAGE data for the Amphilochidae and Oedicerotidae were analysed on species level; in case of the Amphilochidae they were compared to the findings from a previous Icelandic benthic survey, BIOICE (Benthic Invertebrates of Icelandic waters), which also identified a high abundance of amphipod fauna.
