Mutations in genes encoding Na<sup>+</sup> /K<sup>+</sup> -ATPase α1, α2, and α3 subunits cause a wide range of disabling neurological disorders, and dysfunction of Na<sup>+</sup> /K<sup>+</sup> -ATPase may contribute to neuronal injury in stroke and dementia.
