This article presents a dataset of insect-damaged soybean leaves. The capture of images was carried out on several soy farms, under realistic weather conditions, using two cell phones and a UAV. The dataset consists of 3 (three) folders with a total of 6,410 images. Project description:The use of machine learning is rapidly expanding across many industries, including agriculture and the IT sector. However, data is essential for machine learning models, and a substantial amount of data is required prior to training a model. We have collected data of groundnut plant leaves in the form of digital photographs taken in the Koppal (Karnataka, India) area with the assistance of a pathologist in natural settings. Images of leaves are categorized into six distinct groups according to their condition. Collected images are pre-processed and the processed images of groundnut leaves are kept in 6 folders as: the "healthy leaves" folder with 1871 images, the "early leaf spot" folder with 1731 images, the "late leaf spot" folder with 1896 images, the "Nutrition deficiency" folder with 1665 images, the "rust" folder with 1724 images, and the "early rust" folder with 1474 images. The total number of images in the dataset is 10361. This dataset will be useful to train and validate deep learning and machine learning algorithms for groundnut leaf disease classification and recognition. Disease detection in plants is crucial for limiting crop losses and our dataset will help disease detection in groundnut plants. Project description:This paper presents a dataset with 5513 images of individual soybean seeds, which encompass five categories: (Ⅰ) Intact, (Ⅱ) Immature, (Ⅲ) Skin-damaged, (Ⅳ) Spotted, and (Ⅴ) Broken. Furthermore, there are over 1000 images of soybean seeds in each category. Those images of individual soybeans were classified into five categories based on the Standard of Soybean Classification (GB1352-2009) [1]. The soybean images with the seeds in physical touch were captured by an industrial camera. Subsequently, individual soybean images (227×227 pixels) were divided from the soybean images (3072×2048 pixels) using an image-processing algorithm with a segmentation accuracy of over 98%. The dataset can serve to study the classification or quality assessment of soybean seeds.

Project description:The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Diabrotica barberi (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), the northern corn rootworm, for the EU. D. barberi is a univoltine species occurring in mid-western and eastern USA and Canada, where it reproduces on maize (Zea mays), the preferred larval host. A small proportion of individuals can develop to a lesser extent on spelt (Triticum spelta), rice (Oryza sativa), millet (Panicum miliaceum) and a few North American wild grasses. Eggs are laid in the soil of maize fields, where they overwinter and can enter a diapause which can extend for more than one winter. Larvae hatch in late spring and early summer. Adult emergence peaks in the summer to feed on maize tassels, silks and ear tips. Adults abandon maize fields looking for other feeding hosts and return to maize for oviposition during late summer and autumn. D. barberi is considered a key pest of maize, together with other rootworm species of the same genus. D. barberi is regulated in the EU by Directive 2000/29/EC (Annex IAI). Within this Directive, a general prohibition of soil from most third countries prevents the entry of D. barberi larvae. However, adults carried on sweetcorn or green maize are potential pathways for entry into the EU. Climatic conditions and the wide availability of maize provide conditions to support establishment in the EU. Following establishment, impact on maize yields is anticipated. Phytosanitary measures are available to inhibit entry of this pest. D. barberi satisfies the criteria, which are within the remit of EFSA to assess for it to be regarded as a potential Union quarantine pest. D. barberi does not meet the criteria of occurring in the EU nor plants for planting being the principal means of spread for it to be regarded as a potential Union regulated non-quarantine pest.

Project description:This article introduces Arabica coffee leaf datasets known as JMuBEN and JMuBEN2. Image acquisition was done in Mutira coffee plantation in Kirinyaga county-Kenya under real-world conditions using a digital camera and with the help of a pathologist. JMuBEN dataset contains three compressed folders with images inside. The first file contains 7682 images of Cerscospora, the second contains 8337 images of rust and the last one contains 6572 images of Phoma. JMuBEN2 contains two compressed files where the first file contains 16,979 images of Miner while the other contains 18,985 images of healthy leaves. In total, the dataset contains 58,555 leaf images spread across five classes (Phoma, Cescospora, Rust, Healthy, Miner,) with annotations regarding the state of the leaves and the disease names. The Arabica datasets contain images that facilitates training and validation during the utilization of deep learning algorithms for coffee plant leaf disease recognition and classification. Project description:The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Diabrotica virgifera zeae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), the Mexican corn rootworm, for the EU. This is one of two subspecies of D. virgifera which occurs in Central America, Mexico and central southern parts of the USA (Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico). The preferred larval host is maize (Zea mays) roots, although larvae can feed on the roots of sorghum and other grass species. Adults feed on the leaves, silks, immature seeds of maize, and pollen of up to 63 plant genera. Eggs are laid in the soil of maize fields in late summer/early autumn and hatch in late spring. Adults are found in and near maize fields from May until frosts appear later in the year. D. virgifera zeae is univoltine except where maize is grown continuously when there can be multiple overlapping generations each year. In the Americas, D. virgifera zeae is considered a key maize pest. D. virgifera zeae is regulated by Directive 2000/29/EC (Annex IAI). A general prohibition of soil from most third countries prevents the entry of immature stages of D. virgifera zeae. However, adults could be carried on sweetcorn or green maize. Project description:The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) for the EU. This subspecies occurs in North and Central America. Adults oviposit on annual plants in the families Asteraceae, Chenopodiaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Fabaceae, Poaceae, Polygonaceae and Solanaceae. Adults feed on tender plant parts in hosts in 40 additional botanical families. Preimaginal development takes place on the roots of the host plant, where larvae feed and pupate. D. undecimpunctata howardi is a multivoltine species. Overwintering adults, which may enter a facultative diapause, abandon crops in autumn and reinvade them in spring. D. undecimpunctata howardi is not known to occur in the EU and is regulated in Annex IIA of Commission Implementing Regulation 2019/2072. This species is a competent vector of Erwinia tracheiphila (Smith) Bergey et al., which can cause bacterial wilt, a serious disease of cucurbits. The bacterium, which is restricted to temperate midwestern and eastern North America, is not regulated in the EU. Within Commission Implementing Regulation 2019/2072, potential entry pathways for D. undecimpunctata howardi, such as Asteraceae, Poaceae and Solanaceae plants for planting with foliage and soil/growing medium, and soil/growing media by themselves can be considered as closed. However, plants for planting of the families Chenopodiaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Fabaceae and Polygonaceae are not specifically regulated. Should D. undecimpunctata howardi arrive in the EU, climatic conditions and availability of susceptible hosts provide conditions suitable for establishment and further spread. Economic impact is anticipated in maize and outdoor cucurbit production. D. undecimpunctata howardi satisfies the criteria that are within the remit of EFSA to assess for this species to be regarded as a potential Union quarantine pest. Project description:This article introduces Peruvian coffee leaf datasets known as CATIMOR, CATURRA and BORBON of coffee plantations located at San Miguel de las Naranjas and La Palma Central, Jaén province, Cajamarca, Perú. The leaves with nutritional deficiencies were identified by agronomists, using a physical structure the controlled environment was designed and the images were captured with a digital camera. The dataset contains 1006 leaf images grouped according to their nutritional deficiencies (Boron, Iron, Potasium, Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Nitrogen and others). CoLeaf dataset contain images that facilitate training and validation during the utilization of deep learning algorithms for coffee plant leaf nutritional deficiencies recognition and classification. Project description:Moths (Lepidoptera) are major agricultural and forest pests in many parts of the world, including Europe, with many causing great economic damage to crops, horticultural plants, stored items, and wool products. Here, we focus on two ecologically similar inchworms, Operophtera brumata and Erannis defoliaria, known for their high foliage consumption during the spring emergence of caterpillars. We hypothesise that bats could play a role in reducing pests such as caterpillars by switching to this abundant emerging prey. At two infested and one control forest sites, caterpillars were sampled during spring to determine levels of infestation. At the same time, bat flight activity was monitored during the peak in caterpillar abundance. During the spring caterpillar outbreak, we collected faecal samples of forest-dwelling bats capable of using gleaning. The majority of samples were positive for our focus species, being 51.85% for O. brumata and 29.63% for E. defoliaria faecal samples. The foraging activity of two gleaning bats, Myotis nattereri and Myotis bechsteinii, increased at both infested sites, but not at the control site, during caterpillar emergence, as did foraging of Plecotus auritus/austriacus, which used both gleaning and aerial hawking. We conclude that both specialists and occasional gleaners, which prefer different prey but are able to switch their foraging strategies, aggregate at sites during pest emergence and, as such, our results confirm the high potential of bats to reduce numbers of pest species such as caterpillars.

Project description:Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been evident in the agricultural sector recently. The objective of AI in agriculture is to control crop pests/diseases, reduce cost, and improve crop yield. In developing countries, the agriculture sector faces numerous challenges in the form of knowledge gap between farmers and technology, disease and pest infestation, lack of storage facilities, among others. In order to resolve some of these challenges, this paper presents crop pests/disease datasets sourced from local farms in Ghana. The dataset is presented in two folds; the raw images which consists of 24,881 images (6,549-Cashew, 7,508-Cassava, 5,389-Maize, and 5,435-Tomato) and augmented images which is further split into train and test sets. The latter consists of 102,976 images (25,811-Cashew, 26,330-Cassava, 23,657-Maize, and 27,178-Tomato), categorized into 22 classes. All images are de-identified, validated by expert plant virologists, and freely available for use by the research community.

Project description:Hyposidra talaca is a major defoliating pest of tea plants in north-eastern part of India. In this study, we look for variations (if any) in the attacking virus. Viral samples were collected from different regions of the northern part of West Bengal in India and were analyzed by PCR technique to study the variations across the region. The partial segment of the HytaNPV polyhedrin gene was cloned and sequenced. A 527 bp nucleotide sequence containing highly conserved region from polyhedrin gene of HytaNPV was observed. The blast homology search for studied polyhedrin gene showed 98% sequence identity with the sequence of previous reported NPV of H. talaca, H. infixaria and Buzura suppressaria. Pathogenicity study against second instar H. talaca indicated that the LC50 values ranged from 4.61 × 105 to 7.57 × 105 polyhedral occlusion bodies per ml (POBs/ml) and the LT50 values ranged from 4.2 to 6.66 days. Sequencing result reveals that the same HytaNPV strain dominates across this area and the pathogenicity indicates its potential as an alternative to chemical insecticides to control H. talaca.
